Game forums (not just WoW)

Why is politics not allowed on any gaming forums even in off topic sections?

The threads always escalate to verbal altercations.

WoW Forums are up for public viewing, and it’s bad PR to have stuff up like that.

Last thing Blizzard needs is a news station publishing articles with headlines like “Video Game World of Warcraft forum becomes haven for [Insert Political Party Here]”

I’m saying this as someone that has learned that the hard way lol, even if well intentioned, all it takes is one or two people to make the thread become radical. I don’t even mention political figures anymore, even if neutral.

I made a thread once asking what Class certain leaders from [REDACTED] would play. It started off as a fun environment for learning history, but then politically radical people turned the thread into a warzone.

It kinda is, but it has to be in-lore politics.

However if you wanna discuss real life politics i recommend keeping it to like discord etc.

Politics get verbally violent. Everyone is ether one side or the other. The two are at war. Politics is often not allowed cause it sparks hatred and verbal attacks.

Because it never stays civil and what people do or don’t view as political or politics varies.

Just… no.

Why would game companies want a forum where players go to do nothing but yell at each other about things they know nothing about?

I mean, even more so than GD.

Hahah… that’d be kinda funny. I can just see the threads speculating that Blizz is deep state.

Why do you want to bring real world politics into a game? Most people don’t want to hear it. Take it somewhere appropriate. This, and any other gaming forum, is not.

Cuz people argue ? Thats a no brainer

Go to political forums for political discussion; why do you want to discuss this stuff with people on gaming forums?

There’s unironically a lot of value in discussing parallels of real life politics with ingame lore. Problem is people can’t behave themselves anymore.

It’s very obvious from earier renditions of Warcraft that the story writers had a lot of knowledge of military history, which was part of what made things so good.

Meanwhile, with the writing we’ve been currently having it becomes apparent that many of the new writers have never picked up a history book in their life.

For example, if the Horde helping the Night Elves establish a new homeland had taken more historical inspiration from Germany helping the Jewish People establish a new homeland post-war, the expansion narrative would have been much more impactful.

Lets not even talk about the recent retaking of Gilneas, what a digrace.

Would have done the writers some good to pick up a book and take inspirations of real life events of fallen kingdoms returning to and retaking their homeland with the aide of previous enemies to take out a common enemy.

because we fail to do any reconciling and prefer rhetorical yelling contests instead.

My old man used to say, “if you want to keep the conversation civil, avoid politics and religion”.

On a side note he would also bring up political topics with people he knew disagreed with them.

He was an odd man.
