Gambling hall? Arena betting?

Will there ever be a gambling hall in world of warcraft?
Hear me out. Goblins playing poker just feels like it fits.
Gnomes betting on battle bots just seems reasonable.

If not a gambling hall… can we bet on arena games?

No. Breaks some gambling laws or something.

really? even thou its all VC?

maybe if they relocated blizzard HQ to Las Vegas; read: hell freezes over :slot_machine:

Things can become fairly strict when it comes to gambling (even with only in game currency) in video games.

So does Loot Boxes but Activision could care less…

But you’re right. In many countries gambling is fround upon even virtual. To abid by their laws, it is easier to just not have it supported by the game.

And what law is that? Lol

There’s a casino in FFXIV & arena staking in OSRS. As long as it’s virtual ingame currency being bet then there’s no problem and even if there was real life money involved, I don’t even think any current laws can be enforced with how much of a grey area that it is. Just look at CSGO key gambling and loot boxes

They’re already changing loot boxes. Was a thing like last summer. I wasn’t really paying attention.

The brawler’s guild is probably the closets thing wow will ever get to a gambling hall.

In the BG, if I remember correctly, (haven’t done it in almost 2 years) there is a ‘quest giver’ who lets you pick the outcome of the next player match. The player puts up nothing but is rewarded if they select the right out come.

Once wow adds a system where the player has to put up some form of currency/mat that can be acquired in game gold (which can be purchased with real money, they cross the line into gambling. And then, like everyone else has stated, wow opens a whole can of worms even they do not want to touch.

Gambling in games is not against the law but in European law the game would get a Pegi 18+ rating. By comparison WoW currently is a Pegi 12 which mean kids aka teens are allowed to buy and play the game. Something most developers are pretty strict with nowadays to not get an 18+ game because that would mean their game wont be allowed to shown in shelves in some countries.

Think only Belgium has strict laws against lootboxes and gambling in general.

Reminder that WoW gold can be purchased with money and then liquidated into money all through Blizzard itself.

they could just have a separate casino currency.

easy fix

No, I’m pretty sure it’d automatically make WoW rated M for simulated gambling at the least and you’d get dangerously close to actual gambling and the rules that brings with it due to the WoW token literally giving gold a Blizzard facilitated real world value.

Funnily enough players invent their own ways of gambling in game. If something isnt in game, we will make something up.

I agree with this though. The currency for gambling would have to be ENTIRELY separated from gold. People with a gambling addiction could really find themselves buying hundreds of dollars worth of tokens for the virtual casino. It would have to be something like Brawlers Gold, and then be Exchangable for other, more tangible, prizes in game. And the way to get the Brawlers Gold initially would have to be through a quest/daily/grinds to avoid real money.

More directly it feeds RMT.

Eve had this and other stuff like lotteries. Worked well for a time. Then some who ran these got linked to RMT. when even after payout you still made out with many billions on the betting pool or the lottery…at some point some go wtf? do I do with this money.

For some the answer was make game money more, you know, real.

PLus gambling took centre stage like you said. But this is in real grey areas of some states and or countries laws.

they can already gamble online anyway, theres more than just wow out there for that already

It should also be mentioned that WoW is a game with a very large amount of players who are minors. If you really want to gamble, either go to your nearest casino or go to an actual gambling site that is properly regulated.

Gambling has already infected video games enough and we should fight to have less of it, not make it more prevalent.

Old Republic has slot machines, casinos and an entire holiday that revolves around gambling.

Old Republic is still T rated.

So why further saturate an already heavily populated market that is by its nature extremely predatory?

Because it’s fun?

I take it you’re never participated in the Night Life holiday event in Old Republic.
