Gadgetzan exploit?

I am curious if this is considered and exploit, or if it is allowed.

I was attacked by a mage in Gadgetzan who was standing within the town and frostbolting me, but he never gained guard aggro.

He attacked me in several spots where he was a small distance (10+ yards) from the guards, even if I was standing directly on the guard when his frostbolt hit, the guards wouldn’t aggro.

So basically, he could attack me with no repercussion within the city.

If it’s allowed, fair call. But it seems a bit dodgy that I can stand on the guard, with no LoS issues anywhere while I get hit and the guards don’t react.

According to some Blue posts (I don’t have offhand) it’s an exploit.

But I don’t see why players just down get on the roof too OR shoot them…

Not trying to argue… but maybe he didn’t intend to exploit and it’s a bug?

Because the reason it’s classified as an exploit has to do with mob behavior.

You can use terrain to your advantage all you want in places where you aren’t exploiting mobs for an advantage.

I didn’t say I don’t see it as an exploit.

I’m just saying, if he can get up there, you can too?

Blizzard has been banning people who are doing this. Report them and find others to report them as well. They will be banned.

Reports are accelerated if more and more people report the exploiter.

Yes. But if you engage in combat up there within range of where guards are supposed to aggro, now you’re exploiting too.

Hey, it’s just an area where it’s fair game at that point.

No you guys are missing the boat on this, there is a dead zone smack dab in the middle of town on the ground, not on the arena, not a terrain exploit where a level 60 mage can 1 shot all the lowbies walking by and the guards wont agro on it. A rogue can ambush someone with the same effect.

As a priest i can stand on that same spot to try and counter but as soon as i fear or anything like that, guard agro. The guard behavior has been favorable to rogues & mages but not as advantageous to other classes from what i can see.

I know on our server the offending parties were doing it for a week or so and i gotta figure the reports were rolling in that entire time but there they were a week later abusing this deadzone still.

It sucks i know, i hope the guards get a revamp like they did during vanilla. (least i think they did not 100% on that) But it doesn’t appear that blizzard is committed to policing this particular activity at this time.

I’ve seen this deadzone for guards. It is to the left of the Inn, correct?

Pfft not going to put it in writing so more poeple can abuse it lol.

I’m sure someone else has though. It is real and it is there. I did my best to dislodge the offending parties but like i said eventually i would need to fear and then get smashed by the guards.

Kinda sucks…

If you stood in the spot and feared, would you be safe but they would die?

Here’s a recent post by the greated mod ever that addresses this:

If i fear them and they get in range of a guard the guard agros on me even if i am standing right on the spot they were casting from. Sometimes they will screw up and counter attack once fear wears off and guards will agro on them too but not always.

It’s an reportable exploit. Alliance have been doing the same thing at the RuneCloth bag vender in Winterspring as in that room there is a certain ledge you can get on where the guards won’t aggro you.

People do this there in order to prevent you from being lucky enough to grab the pattern if it decides to spawn as people have been selling it on AH for 40-50g on fairbanks.

They will get a warning, if they continue I can imagine they get a suspension.

Yea mass report the exploiters.

He is purposely exploiting . It’s a bug with the arena. Hopefully he enjoys his vacation.

I know responding to this line of “reasoning” is basically pissing into the wind, but I’m gonna do it anyway.

If you shoot or cast at them, the guards aggro to you. Even if you can out DPS the mage at range, you cannot out dps the mage plus the town guards. whether you fight or run at that point, the mage CCs you and lets the guards get the final blow, thus both killing you and causing repairs. If you try to reach them, their frostbolts slow you down, and makes it impossible to make the jumps required, thus rendering the mage in this case functionally invulnerable.

This is, and always has been, an exploit. The ability to get on the cage was left in for accuracy, but if people keep abusing this I expect Activision will get fed up with the extra GM work policing these guys and do something very heavy handed.

Well when you start it off this way, sure. Feel free to continue. Otherwise, get over yourself.

lol dude your primary solution(get on the cage to fight them) is literally impossible due to the way slowing mechanics work. You ever wonder why it’s always the mages that people have the biggest issue with on the cage, even though warlocks, hunters, priests, shaman, and druids could also cause many of the same problems? You NEED speed to make the jumps.

to pre-empt your next two canned responses:

pvp happened on a pvp server:
no, exploitation happened on a pvp server. This isn’t a terrain advantage, it’s an unintended and nearly unbeatable location that takes an asymmetric advantage from supposedly neutral guards.

pvp problems have pvp solutions:
Cheating problems have administrative solutions. No one is complaining that they were attacked, and no one is complaining that being attacked left them in a no-win situation. This happens all the time, usually called ganking. People are complaining about being attacked in a way that causes game mechanics to work asymmetrically in the favor of the attacker, leaving them not only without an immediate solution but few options for a long term one as well.
