Future of classic after Wotlk

For reference if you have not yet read it yourself yet.

I’m interested in hearing people’s thoughts on what they actually are MORE interested in, do you want a classic experience dedicated to classic + with a larger variety of changes which could possibly be anything OR to go into Cataclysm if any problems you may have had with the expansion were changed or fixed.

Personally I would rather see classic + simply because the possibilities are rather interesting with what they may release, possibly even previously unfinished content like the unused portal in SW or the instance portal In winterspring.

I’d like to see Vanillas’s Azeroth have it’s missing pieces restored:

What I’d say is perhaps the best route is doing Cataclysm as a Season of Mastery , and leaving Wrath as Wrath or ++.

Why? Well ask the ‘Cata-Classic’ fans what they want to do it for, and I’d wager it’ll be Raids, Dungeons and PvP. Not Questing.

Want to level in Uldum/Vash/Hyjal/Deepholm/Twilight Highlands? Retail is there.
Want to level in the post-Cataclysm Revamped World? Retail is there.
But, if you want to experience Cataclysm Endgame content? You have to re-run Cata, and a SoM would fit the desires of the people who probably actually want it.

Meanwhile, the people who would give ungodly amounts of money over the next 6+ years to be able to toddle on a Forever-Wrath, where the Community is corralled to, rather than splintered from, would be unharmed by the woes of the Cata World Revamp.

I’ll be real, my Troll Shaman in TBC that I started in v-Classic is only level 38 and that’s my main. I’ve had to change servers/factions and level new alts to like 21/27 as distractions. I was looking forward to “60 forever yay” and got robbed of that, but it was expected.

As soon as TBC was announced, I knew 80 was the real endgame I could realistically meet, and was sure I could just take my time, at least hit 60 this year, boost through Outland(sorrynotsorry), and play the game I fell in love with as a wee lad, as long as I wanted.

and theen Ion just haass to mention Cata… What on earth are they thinking? they need to be clear is all I’m saying by that.

" But I’d ask an interesting question, what is it about Cataclysm that you don’t like? Was it Heroic Dungeons? Was Firelands a bad raid? Was Twilight Highlands a bad zone? "
-Quote by Ion Hazzikostas-

Um… how about the WORLD REVAMP, Ion? the thing that replaced all of the ‘Classic’ quests, changed up numerous ‘Classic’ dungeons, and made it so that we couldn’t, until 2019 experience once again? It’s not even that I don’t like it, but it’s already available on Retail.

If they release ‘Cata-Classic+’, and they even leave open ‘Wrath Classic’ as they did V-Classic, then inevitably Wrath will die, because the majority of people will just migrate to ‘the new big/best thing’.

2 years felt like ages when I was playing Wrath as a god damn 10-year old, but now- I’m sure I don’t need to tell any of you how fast just two years can go by, the world having been through what it was recently lmao

Wrath launches December 2022, is it going to be over and onto Cata by 2024? Imagine what a shame that’d be, after all of this build up of wanting and getting the World we loved back.

Is the Cata SoM idea not the Win-Win for both parties here?

Just give us cata and mop as they were.

December? More like Sept/Oct

This is certainly my opinion. I know a lot of people do not want to progress to Cataclysm. The best solution would probably be an optional fresh start for everyone, perhaps with a one-way transfer to the new Cataclysm realms, no character copies since that was a fiasco last time. That way the Wrath communities stay intact and can stay on WOTLK Classic, which I feel will have more longevity than either TBC or Vanilla once those ran their course.

From there, A Season of Mastery style makes sense for the people who don’t want to go to Cataclysm. Not much new content is being designed but a new way to tackle that content like this Season of Mastery was. Perhaps take the mythic + Affixes and make WOTLK Classic Mythics? That’d be pretty cool, not sure how much design time would be needed for something like that though, and maintaining those realms.

Everyone ultimately should get what they want, and no leveling in the current Cata zones is not the same as it was actually during Cataclysm, with cataclysm class design and the leveling paths with no level scaling. Same as I could not say leveling in Nagrand on Retail is the same as leveling in Nagrand on TBC. They’re different.

Also, modern dungeons are not how they felt in Cataclysm, I know some people did not always like the faceroll style of dungeons with leveling but I really miss the ability to solo dungeons at level in Cataclysm and Mists. It was a super cool challenge I could give myself.

I don’t care what they do with Cata as long as we get WotLK Era servers.

Gotta get to MoP so Cata is next

Goes without saying, and yet- where is the abundance of people shouting their desires to retread the World Revamp quest zones?
It’s a far better compromise for Fans of Cata to be able to do their desired content differently on Retail, than it is to resign Vanilla-Wrath fans to the fate of the revamp.

You’re not fooling me for one, if anyone else, if you’re trying to imply that Questing is the main reason people want to play Cata-Classic.
I won’t repeat myself more than this, but you people want to do Raids, Dungeons and PvP- Endgame. And you’ll probably speak dishonestly about your ‘love of questing’ just to get those endgame features, and then pay gold for dungeon Boosts to 85 anyway.

MoP I might understand, as Pandaria is a pretty great continent. However again, MoP involves the post-Cata-revamped World in 5.3 and elsewhere- meaning fans of the pre-revamp world would again be told to shove it.

im sure most of the classic player base remaining after classic wrath will want classic plus.

You would still have Classic Era for the old zones

Cata ruined the old world. Classic should not make that mistake again.

I seriously doubt it’d happen but classic+ after Wrath would be cool. After all Cataclysm is when sub numbers started to drop so why not create something new but that would require creating a whole new department and I doubt Blizzard is up for dedicating those resources but that’s just what I’d like to see

Let’s say you’re a new player in Jan 2023 when Wrath Classic is well underway, you maybe even make a DK- but more likely you pay real money for the Deluxe Boost, or

you actually level 1-80 like a champ before Wrath Classic is over, now you’re in love with WoW’s world as it is, and want to have the time to explore/unlock all of the content available in that version of the game you’ve invested yourself in.

Suddenly it’s gone when ‘Cata Classic’ rolls in, and Blizz says “that time and money you spent on -this product-? Forget it, because you can just restart and experience that whole thing on Classic Era! … except the Outland, Blood Elf/Draenei, Northrend/DK parts… you can’t have those back.”

Does the ‘classic era exists’ band-aid logic still apply there?

It applies to the new players just as much as it applies to the veteran players

Right so a Win for you, being a Loss for many others is exactly fine for you. Got it.

Nevermind a Win-Win scenario eh, just too hard to envision?

Compressing the talent trees?

I’m actually extremely happy Ion mentioned this.

I’d really like an AU-timeline, where they basically can look at Retail (Prime-timeline) and see what the players didn’t like in both game changes and story.

(( I can give a complete re-write of most of the story…it’s not like I spend hours each week rethinking “how it should have been”. xD ))

Skip Cata. Make Pandaria span 10 levels. Keep old Azeroth intact!

Quite frankly…

Cataclysm’s main sin was the ludicrously hard Heroics at the start of the expansion, and a lack of solo/casual content when it first came out. We had to wait until Firelands to get the Molten Front questing hub, which was really awesome btw.

And then, that whole fiasco involving the Elementium Deathblade, nerfing it to the point it was worse than the previous tier’s (and lower item level) weapons, to the point it was an unfair nerf for 2H Str users.

But otherwise, I thought Cataclysm was an OK expansion.

What I really wanna see, though, is Mists of Pandaria. My favorite time in WoW by far. that was when I could log on for 8+ hours a day and just get so immersed in the game that I’d log on in the morning and log off when it’s bedtime. Of course, I am working a fulltime job but still. The nostalgia’s still there.

I am not interested in WotLK+. There better be a WotLK Era server (and they really should support TBC Era by at least taking a snapshot and then make it available in the future).

I would lay Classic Cata. I am a fan of RBGs, Tol Barad and the two new BGs. The new zones were interesting (the underwater zone was unique). The world content was largely lacking but I would still play Cata Classic as is.

If they support WotLK, for the love of God, DO NOT do that absurd cloning cost feature (even at $15/toon, it was overpriced). I want WotLK Era AND Cata Classic.

Keep the content true to what it was. Have a few servers for each era. If someone wants to progress they can pay to go to next era. If people want to park then there would be fresh people passing through to next era. Keeps everyone happy and makes Blizzard some money.
