Fury warriors on classic

I’ve been watching a couple of warrior movies from back in vanilla and it looks genuinely like the guy playing that character is having a nice time. Do you think fury is a viable spec for PvP? I enjoyed watching how all those arms warriors just wreck everyone in their path. So I was wondering: what does fury bring to the table that is special?

Fury is good for pvp. A lot more played arms with healing debuff but fury was great too. See swifty’s fury pvp vid from vamilla

It doesn’t bring anything special honestly it’s viable but arms is just way better. Ill make a little list of pros and cons.

Fury:
Pros: Minor self healing, another fear break cd, 15 sec cooldown on intercept, better ‘sustained’ damage.
Cons: Your damage cd also makes you take WAY more damage, low burst damage compared to arms, no MS.

Arms is way better considering the damage you do is WAY more in comparison because most of the time you won’t have 100% uptime so the burst damage you deal is more overall compared to fury if you get ccd.

I’ve played a fury warrior in BfA and I kind of liked it. It feels like you’re rampaging through kill after kill. I was just wondering how they played in Vanilla. What is the main aspect to fury in vanilla?

Well vanilla is way different than BfA. Each spec is going to feel similar to each other because unlike BfA where every spell you have minus 1-3 is different, in vanilla every warrior has the same abilities to use with the exception of like 2-4 spells.

It’s going to feel very similar to arms but you won’t have those crits where you one shot people but you’ll be doing quicker, less bursty damage.

Best thing I can tell you to do is watch a video of fury warriors in vanilla and arms warriors in vanilla pvp. The only difference you will notice right away is the burst.

Yes, I’m watching all of the videos I can find. I find that fury has way less damage than arms overall, because there is no chunky MS crit on the spec. But then the whites are more massive too. So, if I can get someone to dispell the CCs and snares on me will I do good enough as fury?

You will do good enough I suppose if you are really geared. 1 handers also had a lot more chance to miss attacks and white damage. The thing is that it just won’t be ‘as good’ as arms would be. As arms you can one shot healers, do more aoe damage with WW and you also apply the MS effect that makes it really hard to catchup on the damage you do.

Fury is ok, but arms is way better.

Fury with gear did really good dps.

I pvped a lot as 2h fury because that was my raid spec and I didn’t want to respec every other day.
I found 2h fury to be more fun that arms, honestly. At least at level 60.
Full disclosure: I mostly pvped in BGs, so I usually had a pocket healer and I also often had another arms warrior around for MS debuff.

Edited to add: I tried arms a few times and it just felt a lot slower to me.

quite honestly the main upside to fury is you wont have to respec to off tank or do dps in pve if you spec right in fury.

otherwise arms is clearly better at burst dmg which is what most dmg in pvp is.

You are not going to be able to stick to your target enough in PVP to do sustained damage as a Warrior, so dual wielding is not the best idea. Being able to burst a couple abilities while in range of your target was what Arms was all about at 60, plus the healing debuff you stick on the target. I played Arms the entire time at 60 and did well in PVP; I tried Fury for a couple weeks and it was awful on the battlegrounds.

Between Mortal Strike and being able to frontload all its damage in the 1-2 seconds you were ever going to be in range of anything, Arms was a very, VERY clear winner.

Fun to play back then. This is a pvp video from a Fury around entry bwl item level just when fury becomes viable.

Fury is genuinely garbage at pvp. Don’t listen to all these people sucking off Swifty/hulksmash/etc. Fury is a pve spec, that’s all. Will it kill people in pvp? Sure, but if you want to win most of your fights versus good opponents, play arms.

Please tell me more about how garbage 2h fury is at pvp.

I’ve got a whole folder of these from vanilla…

Fury wasn’t garbage at PvP, but it did require you playing and gearing differently than you did in PvE.

IMO and experience  … Arms will be better out of the gate. Try to go for Arcanite Reaper. Crafted BOE. Fury will get better around BWL/ZG release… better one hander drops.

You mean dual-wield Fury? Yeah, its good damage but PvP is more than just damage, it’s about bursting (1v2 scenario) and stuns/cc, Mortal Strike the flag-runner, etc. This is why many Warriors prefer Arms.

Mortal Strike cuts the PVP viability of 4 out of 9 classes in half in addition to doing a truck load of damage every 6 seconds.

Fury just doesn’t have that, but then again neither do any other spec of any other class so you really only have to worry about opposing warriors.

But warriors will be ~ 35% of the population

I mained a fury warr in vanilla who was in a fairly good raiding guild. No server firsts or anything but cleared MC/BWL/AQ at a moderate pace. My warrior was one of the better geared on the server.

People who say fury doesn’t have the burst of arms never had the gear to compete. Warriors are the most gear dependant class, but in vanilla fury was still more gear dependant than arms, and this was because of fury’s stat requirements.

Fury needed both high crit and high hit chance, and the numbers required to push out impressive numbers required raid gear that not many people had access to. I recall when I was in full BWL/AQ gear intercepting a warlock in WSG, heroic strike crit for 2.4k, bloodthirsts crit for 2.4k, and my offhand crit for 700, instantly killing the guy upon reaching him. Popped him like a balloon.

The gear required to burst like that required being a raider and dedicating far too much of your life to the game, looking back…but it sure was rewarding at the time.
