Updating that this issue still exists.
“Coat of Thistlefur” spellid 6813 needs a large nerf. 50% or more.
Can confirm that as of 11/2022 for a rogue trying to level, this is brutal. All quests can be done with patience except the escort. 3 at a time is an insane amount of damage even with full heirlooms and cooldowns etc. Damn spiky fur 
Edit: These quests are not needed for the Loremaster Achievement, they can be safely ignored!

Can confirm this is still a problem as of 08/24/2023.
I actually had to fly back to Lor’danel from northwestern Ashenvale to buy food because the furbolgs near Maestra’s Post were giving me so much trouble that I was nearly dead after fighting just one, and Dal Bloodclaw in Thistlefur Village wiped the floor with me twice before I realized I wouldn’t be able to kill him and abandoned his skull collection quest.
It was said in an earlier comment that you can skip these quests and still get Loremaster – and for most of the furbolg quests, you can. However, you WILL need to collect the 8 Troll Charms from inside the cave in the village to progress the “Bringing Harmony to the Elements” chapter. Luckily, as a rogue, I was able to Stealth my way past most of the furbolgs and Sap the ones next to the charms I needed to pick up so I didn’t have to fight anything, but for most other classes this might be more of a hassle.
On one hand, I’m glad it’s not just me with this problem. On the other hand, it’s disappointing to know this has been a problem for five years and (as far as I know, at least) nothing has been done to fix it.

Still a very serious issue, taking 4-15 instances of damage with every attack.

So, because it is not current content, and Blizzard doesn’t have enough manpower to go back and fix this it’s not being looked at all. This is still very much a thing that is still happening. So, if a Blue would respond to this as this is bug is still very much a thing and a huge scaling issue.
