Frostmourne Transmog in the wild?

So here I was in the Caverns of Time for the new 20th Anniversary, when I see this random Worgen Death Knight with a two-handed sword with a Frostmourne transmog? What? So, I inspect their character and it says that their sword is an Earthen sword transmog. Huh? I’m utterly confused here. Before I can question them, they’re gone.

Either I missed Frostmourne becoming an available transmog for Death Knights or someone’s messed with a bit of the games code, lol. Anyone else come across something like this?

(Side note: Come on Blizzard, Death Knights are getting armor very reminiscent of the Lich King for the Anniversary update, just give them the sword already, lol.)

I’ve never seen a 2h that looks like that model, I’ve seen Slayer of the Lifeless from Naxx and Devouring Cold that have similar designs but are 1h. I’m not sure what that could be.

Not even close lol. The anniversary armor looks pretty bad when you compare it to other anniversary models and even what Arthas had. Its just a bunch of stuff thrown together.

The Frostmourne visual is just a buff and anyone can get it. Go through one of the purple portals and there is a chest that you can open and it will have a selection of things to choose from. You can be a DK with a sword and board, DK with Ashbringer, Paladin with Frostmourne, Warlock with Glaive of Azzinoth.

It’s an illusion from the 20th event. There’s portals you can take to ‘vantage points’ for photos, and there’s a chest which allows you to equip a weapon from warcrafts history. Of the four weapons, three are transmogs you can get in game, two from Legion Hall quests, the last from a rare drop. Only Frostmourn is still unattainable and it’s quite frankly insulting at this point, especially with that nice T2 DK armor that the 20th has. Even Diablo players can run around with Frostmourn, and we still can’t even with the @#&*(^$! high res illusion being of use right now!

a replica frostmourne mog would be sick, but yeah, what you saw was this

So next to the Fashion Frenzy area, there is a group of three portals that take you to random locations. Next to those portals is a treasure chest that lets you choose a specific Legendary weapon to “equip” for 5 min.

But yeah, I feel like Blizzard has been dangling Frostmourne in front of us quite literally since before WotLK even dropped (they specifically said it would be a Legendary weapon, but ultimately decided on an Axe, likely because Warriors required Axes at the time to be competitive).

Where? Or did people on the forums say it was going to be?

One of the Blizzcon panels. They showed off a joke version of Frostmourne, but said they were working on it and would have it ready by the end of the expansion.

I mean, plans change, so it’s not the end of the world. After all, I think it would’ve been kind of sketchy if Paladins and Warriors were running around with Frostmourne as well, so from that perspective I can also understand the desire to essentially make a variation.

Just crazy that after 20 years, we still don’t have it in WoW, despite now being available in every other Blizzard game.

So D4 as the only one you can equip on your character and Hearthstone. The thing is, people arent flocking to these games because of this weapon. Im not even really seeing many people use it in WoW now that you can get a 5 minute buff. I rather it be unique to the LK, just like how Ashbringer should have been unique and the same with Doomhammer. It takes something away from the weapon when everyone has access to it.

They would probably put it as a toy on the store for 100 bucks before they just give it to people.

Frostmourne is also in Diablo Immortal, and with the Lich King skin for Reinhart, he also wields Frostmourne. So… yeah, all of Blizzard’s other games.

I completely agree, though, it should be DK-only. It’s the definitive Death Knight weapon, it shouldn’t be wielded by any other class.

Does anyone even play that game? It also looks like its just crossover events trying to get whales to play so Blizzard can make some money. Just skins trying to get WoW fans to get into Overwatch, D4 or DI to purchase the bundles.

No idea of the playerbase on it, but as I said, Frostmourne is ultimately obtainable in every other Blizzard game. They’re doing so under the umbrella of WoW’s 20th Anniversary, but it still seems pretty bizarre.

Everything that Blizzard is doing right now is due to the love of money. Early Access for TWW had easier leveling which they removed when the full release was out, they increased the bronze gain for the anniversary but only for those that bought TWW instead of buffing the quests in the anniversary grounds, the Lich King transmog in Diablo Immortal, Invincible on the D4 store that has Frostmourne on it (cant actually find any characters in game actually using it), doing WoW crossover events in dead and dying games to try to get people over there, 90 dollar mounts.

The only way anyone might see Frostmourne as a permanent transmog in WoW is if they are trying to get people back into the game. Thats how they are using it everywhere else.

I totally get it. Making players happy is also more likely to retain subscribers, though, which is why I suspect the Trading Post has remained well supported.

I can’t see a way in which they implement Frostmourne in a way that’s congruent with the expectation of what it is, and be able to charge money for it separately. People would pay for it, obviously, but Blizzard has also never sold any item that is Class-specific, either. Having Frostmourne available to every class would totally undermine its status as the definitive Death Knight weapon.

They claimed “Private Ownsusohard”, a Gnome Warrior becoming the Lich King would break lore.

Funny 15+ years ago. Sheer laziness now. And as a Paladin I agree. Only DKs should have Frostmourne, period.

A quest where you reforge the de-powered pieces would be a good solution. The sword is just that “depowered” so it isn’t like it even matters a whit now. Blizzard is just phoning in on the effort with DKs, and the state of Blood DK, Monk, and a couple other classes really shows it.

Don’t even need that. Some Ebon Blade member who was a mage in their living life says ‘hey guys, look at this cool transmog illusion I made!’

That works also. I like how you think!

And they can use the OG model and HD model and use it for both 2H and 1H without changing size so you can go dual wielding your Frostmournes if you wanted.

Arthas’ outfit is actually bad, the Helm is nice but the rest is bad. It’s pretty in the cinematic but ugly in game.

No it isnt.

Make this make sense. Thats like saying the cinematics of brood war is pretty but the game is low poly count… of course it is.
