Frost Nova was never fixed or probably even worked on

Nice, more pointless anecdotal evidence from someone who doesn’t understand how frost nova works. There is a chance it will break. You conveniently ignore the countless examples where it instantly breaks from a tiny amount of damage.

Frost nova was one of the absolutely most annoying things in the old days. I don’t remember exactly when it was finally fixed, but I don’t think it was until like… Cata. The devs have a reference server so I am certain it is working as intended atm.

You must not have played back in the day or have a terrible memory It was very rare that you could get off more than 2 frost lance without nova breaking. Very rare.

Yes, it must be working, because it’s not like people are randomly falling out of the sky to their death after the last patch, and other things. The game is full of bugs because blizzard updated the game client for TBC to the retail client. It’s been a problem since the games release that has lead to numerous inaccuracies and bugs in the game.

It’s not really a matter of opinion. It’s a fact. Anyone that knows anything about the game knows there is a long list of bugs that were never present in the original game that have been created by converting to the retail client.

I played mage in BC and wotlk. If nova worked like that back then then every mage would have been 2500+ its not supposed to act like a deepfreeze just without stun, but it is right now.

I assure you it almost always broke soon as you hit it with ice lance, even my pet broke it easily. Now days you can spame 3 or 4 lances into it and maybe a few frost bolts before the timer runs out VS someone who cant fight back. Something is very wrong with it.

Yeah if i recall correctly mages used to line up more frostbolt+icelance combos back then because you could get more damage out than a single ice lance which would usually break a nova when it crit

Hence the name “Shatter combo” because it required timing and setup.

Not anymore!

I wish I had rolled Mage or Rogue so I could do Arena/PvP with a clean conscience instead of feeling bad for bringing my team down with a Shaman.

It was absolutely broken on the beta and blizz themselves said the reason as to why. Clips like these are showing footage almost identical to what was happening on the beta.

It has a significantly smaller chance of breaking to melee attacks as opposed to the magic damage caused by lances. Its looks as if sometimes when people are getting hit while nova’d it’s being registered as a physical attack and not breaking nearly as much as it should be.

Any of the numerous hotfixes, or even the major patch releases could have rebroken this just like some of the other bugs like mages invis animation/pallies seal animation being gigantic a few weeks ago, or all the people falling from the sky upon logging in.

Please fix though its infuriating watching arena team mates die to a nova as they eat several lances in a row.

rogue mage clearly takes alot of skill to play and they obviously need unbreakable frost novas because it’s a D tier comp

He posted a 2022 video.

My 2s rating agrees and my rogue only has 200 resil.

There’s nothing to fix. Focusing on a few examples and ignoring anything to the contrary merely shows your bias. Blizz has the 1.12 client to compare it to. They know.

And to answer an earlier post…I played mage in TBC. I know how it worked back then. And it was a huge random range like it is right now in TBC Classic. Sometimes I’d kill 100-0 without breaking. Sometimes it would break from a wand hit. That’s just how it works.

Imagine posting this unironically, after the last patch which has DEMONSTRABLY broken multiple things.

Imagine mounting a ridiculous argument about completely unrelated bugs must mean everything in the game is bugged.

I’m going to have to go with Blizzard’s internal data and hardware over someone’s faulty memory of game mechanics from 20 years ago. Sorry!

I literally linked a 30+min PVP video of a mage called noone, and nowhere did he ever ice lance 4-5 times a single nova.

Stop blowing smoke and spreading false information. We aren’t going to believe someone who just “remembers” from 15+years ago hiding on an alt.

LOL, oh no one video shows you what you want to see.

I just jumped on the TBC test server, and made a 70 mage. Nova is breaking on 1 ice lance almost every time. I had one single time where it took two ice lances.

Stop pretending an anomaly means there’s a bug.

Edit - I actually had to put my elemental on passive since his waterbolts kept breaking the novas on their own. This thread is such nonsense.
