Ice floes and shimmer, my mans. They are your friends. And, as previously stated, I’m gonna continue to encourage my mage friends to vote for the set bonus that objectively performs the best. 2 glacial spikes at 8 target cap vs 1 flurry at 5 target cap aren’t even close to competitive.
Pls… S3…
At the very least they should consider making the s2 4 piece an actual talent.
2 set from tier 1
4 set from tier 3
With 0 haste rating and no external buffs it’s a 2.5 second cast, compared to 1.8s for Frostbolt. However, it’s very easy to reach 45% haste and that stat benefits GS a lot more than FB, bringing GS down to 1.9s compared to the 1.4s of FB. Under 2 seconds is not a “long spell” when you consider that in previous expansions we’ve had our filler spells take 2 seconds or more to cast. For comparison, in Wrath even talented into it Frostbolt is a 2.1 second cast, and FFB is 2.6 seconds at 15% haste.
Also if you hate standing still (which Frost rarely has to do because of all the instant casts) then use Ice Floes.
S3 AoE > other seasons
Didn’t they say there would be a balancing pass, regardless what is picked?
Yeah, that was mentioned. I still don’t see how they bring S2 up to S3 levels. GS hits WAY harder than flurry, and GS splits…so if you shatter both spikes, it’s 2 sources of AoE damage vs 1. The soft caps are relatively irrelevant, since that can change, but there are too many other factors.
Who’s voting for S3?!
i read more people who loves s2 or 1
A fact which I agree with, and address further in the post.
I think it would be easy for them to balance. The same way they brought GS back is the same way they can bring Non-GS back… It doesn’t even have to be tied to tier. They nerfed like 6 abilities and talents to bring GS back. They could un-nerf those same talents for starters.
I don’t think its as easy to balance them for all content without breaking something. Let’s assume the below (yes, scaling and all that):
- Flurry hits for an average of 100k (3 hits technically)
- The S2 2pc comet explodes for 35k total
- GS hits for an average for 600k
- The S3 2pc explodes for 110k
We will ignore the ST component, assuming that the loss of GS damage and 40% BF chance is offset by the 20% IL increase and 10% BF chance on IL. Those will be tuned either way, and this is not so much about ST.
For that S2 2pc to compete with the S3 2pc in an AoE situation, it would need to be buffed to about 130% of flurry damage. That assumes <6 targets as well, because the comet has DR after 5 while the GS explosion doesn’t get that until 8.
That is just raw numbers though. Based on my limited experience in M+ this season, you do cast GS more often than Flurry by nature so without major rotational changes moving the priority of Flurry up higher, I’d expect that 130% would need to be much closer to 200%, and I can only imagine the QQ from that.
Either way, I’m not overly fussed. Once S3 is over I’ll likely level an alt or go play something else. No interest in this recycled content.
Why not just put all sets and bonus variations on vendors? This way players can choose based on preference and content!
Why is s2 bad for PvP, it’s better than s1…20% vs10% to lance our #1damage… u must play rogue mage instead of caster cleaves…
Course with the freezing winds nerf, none will be great as before….
As a rule we should ignore PvPers. Their game mode doesn’t matter.
Season 2 two piece with Season 3 two piece is my vote.
Agree we need something that works well for pvp if possible.
Most melee sets are almost just as much of a benefit in pve as pvp. I wish casters could get that level of benefit in pvp too. I’d love the season 2 two piece just for that fact but prefer the season 3 two piece for pve.
2pc s1 and 2pc s2 ftw……
How is S3 winning lol. It’s so bad
Bro… I’m a frost mage… I only play wiz cleave. Plus the s2 set is legit a 5 percent chance to get a brain freeze when you send a modified lance. You get more dam just sticking to 2set and then grabbing biss stats
this is a nightmare
