Frost mage help

So I’ve played most classes in RSS and have gotten everyone i’ve tried to 2100+ except frost mage. I’ve been struggling a bit and was hoping I could get some pointers/help.

I generally always start games in stealth and either open with a poly on healer, or if partner is opening with own cc, I’ll pop my cds on target dps, and then follow up whatever CC I or my partner did, with another poly. When it becomes clear a kill isn’t going to happen (healer is on CC dr or the dps used defensives) I’ll usually try to rotate poly onto one of the dps.

If I get focused hard I’ll usually start by using alter time (if my life is high), and basically just rotate gap closers as best as possible, and stall for CC DR’s to fall off healer and CD’s to come back up while trying to do as much damage as possible.

In terms of trends I’m seeing, I find I usually struggle on overall damage and I’m usually lowest on dps. Perhaps I’m focusing too much on landing CC? Additionally, I also find my poly;s are very often broken by teammates, especially when the enemy healer is all up in the middle of everything.

Anyways, I could go on with different things I do, but really I just wanted to get an idea of what helped some of you climb? Was there anything that clicked for you that you did that was an “aha” moment. Just looking for basic advice. Any input appreciated!

This was my problem as well early on.

I was trying to play mage too much like I had in the past by CCing enemy cds and ccing the healer and the game just doesnt function like that as much anymore.

Feels like the best strat is to REALLY min/max your damage, ESPECIALLY during veins.

If you can sheep the healer in the opener then thats great, but your main focus should really be doing as mucb damage as possible in your veins window.

Outside of veins its okay to get sheeps on healer, especially if you’re playing with something like feral/war/rogue/ww with a dedicated stun (I also like frostbomb in those comps).

Outside of that, try to use a cheeky ice wall to disrupt or secure a kill and live to 2nd veins and that’ll be GG most of the time.

You don’t need to open up in stealth. Your invisibility spell is actually a huge defensive cool down and you can save it. I recommend playing with ice wall because it can win the game many times. Also I like to play with frostbolt spec since the burst is pretty insane.

Sorry, I’m a total frost mage noob. Can you elaborate on what frostbolt spec is exactly? Also, in terms of using invisibility as a defensive, how does this work? Simply by making them lose target? In 99% of games I feel like there are so many dots, mini cc, aoe, and/or i’m moving around so much that I would be taken out of stealth pretty much instantly were I to use it as a defensive.

Press frostfire bolt as much as possible for big dam.

It has a damage reduction component attached to it.

Right, but are there specific talents you do/do not take for this spec?

If you drop your btag I can jump in cord and stream some games or watch some games of you playing frost. Easier to explain that way

Would recommend sharing some videos so others can watch friendo

Also what talents are you currently running?

Frost bolt spec is a talent build where you spam cast Frostfire bolt but only during Icy Veins. Also each FFB needs to shatter so you generally cast Flurry followed by 2 FFBs, then rinse and repeat. I’m pretty sure Aeghis has a video explaining it on YouTube.
