Frost is yet again terrible. Not even worth playing if you want to push high level keys. Thoughts?

Let me start by saying that I realize we have quite arguably the best DPS spec around right now in Arcane. That being said, I suppose i cant complain TOO much.

However, I usually only post on forums when a new xpac drops. The post usually has to do with how bad frost is for PvE.

Here we are again… I am by no means a top tier end game player. I have however played mage for a lot of hours. My rotation is near perfect, especially for the low level keys i have been pushing (4, 5, 6s etc)

It seems like every pull all of the other dps (prot pally, monk, warrior) are all just shooting straight to the top of the chart. By the time i even have a chance to get halfway through my rotation, the mobs are already almost dead.

Can someone explain to me why when something is so obviously inferior, it doesnt get a realistic buff? Like, WHY even buff glacial 20%? If youre already buffing, at least make it worth it. Maybe some sort of blanket increase in damage for frost spells?

Admittedly i have been top dps on most bosses in m+ right now. However, thats just due to the time the fights last. They just so happen to last about as long as my cooldowns do - if it was a raid fight, no shot for me.

I dont know what im hoping to get out of this post - maybe just some thoughts on why they always tease like frost might be good, just to let it fall to the depths.

(also fire folks, i feel for ya right now as well <3 )

Hang in there non Arcane friends, we will have our day!

Not sure what you are on about. I am playing frost fire and I can do with reasonable damage of arcane. Your issue is you are looking at the polls. stop it. IN most situations, every spec will do as long as you are geared.

again stop looking at the best guilds and the logs. every mage spec is really viable based on gear lv. cept fire. lol

sorry fires pec people. lol

top keys are all frost mage

your issue is doing low level keys where everything just dies instantly, which makes quite a few specs look worse than they are

This is what i was thinking - faster ttk doesnt let me build as much on a trash pull.

Again, like i said, not a top tier player. Ill end up in high keys, but never this early on.

Thanks for the input!

I can do alot of damage with a spec that is said to garbage. I don’t hold anyone back. I am frost fire.

Frost is the best m+ mage spec rn if looking at popularity and level of keys timed on Archon (poor statistics but still). It is very much capable of pushing high level keys and exceling in those groups.

It has better aoe than arcane and similar st.

I must not be able to read logs correctly then, since I am seeing Frost way down in M+

Personally I think Frost does good damage.

You can literally check rio and see this is a lie like I get its the internet so its easy to lie but if you wanna go about it please don’t be so stupid while doing so.

At 7+ arcane dwarfs frost.

At 10+ arcane dwarfs frost.

At 12+ arcane dwarfs frost.

Misspoke popularity wise, but fact is highest timed keys atm are primarily frost if you look at the leaderboards. It is an extremely good spec.

People can fotm all they want to arcane because some tier list told them, but if frost dominates as a mage spec in the top 50 keys timed I struggle to see how people think its weak or not on its way to being the meta spec.

It’s all about perception and frankly people being too lazy to explore different options for themselves because it’s easier to just follow the fotm meta. Anyone who frequents these forums knows I’ve always played Arcane and this is the first time I can recall when it’s been anywhere near the top let alone one of the best specs.

It’s really surreal seeing so many people who have never played mage or Arcane suddenly flocking to the spec in droves and honestly a little disconcerting to realize how many people just play whatever is considered the best rather than what makes them happy. I guess everyone has different goals and that influences how they approach the game but surely personal enjoyment has to figure into the equation somewhere? It is just a game after all and unless you are a streamer or another kind of content creator who literally treats it as your job (because it is) then I think priorities are definitely being misplaced.

At the end of the day, unless you are a phenomenally skilled player (and then it wouldn’t really matter anyway), if you’re playing a spec you genuinely enjoy chances are you will do better than if you’re forcing yourself to play one you hate just because it’s considered the meta. Just my two cents.

I absolutely blast in raid and m+. It s but wonky at times with FF but I’m highly enjoying it.

You can literally filter by the highest specs and its still arcane. Frost is there but its still arcane.

Folks are already also switching over to fire after both getting more gear and the buffs going in.

So you are wrong. Again.

Frost is actually very strong in keys, but the gameplay is pretty garbage.

People play fotm because Blizzard cranked up difficulty significantly and what people chase in this game is gear.

In order to get gear, you need to complete said content. Fotm not only helps you do so more reliably, but when you are a pure dps class you live and die by what people perceive to be meta for invites.

In other words, people play fotm because they know if you play something like WW monk or hunter instead or even dev evoker, your chances of getting invited to keys are way lower.

You can list your own keys, but single dps key listings take forever to fill just as well.

And it’s really tragic that this is the case because that perception is more often than not wrong. For example last night I played with a WW monk who did 800k DPS. This over-reliance on statistics (which are flawed in of themselves) and trying emulate top end players has only contributed to the toxic environment.

That’s also 100%. Every expansion seems to get harder and harder and it drives people away. It’s why they felt the need to introduce delves with TWW but it’s a dead end gearing path atm because it’s half baked like every new system they’ve released in recent years. On top of that it’s artificially capped at a low enough level of rewards that still forces you to participate in the most toxic types of content (higher M+ and Heroic raid) if you want to progress further.

Blizzard really need to do some serious soul searching going forward because they’re increasingly making all of their games inaccessible to more casual players and geared only towards the people who no-life them. That’s an unsustainable model.

800k in an m+ aint anything. Yall are actually delusional.

I’m loving frost fire

No one said it wasn’t fun. Still has terrible damage compared to the other specs and hero talents
