Frost DK Has to Be The Most Forgotten Spec in The Game

Seriously,

The amount of neglect and disregard for Frost DKs is a bit baffling at this point.

  • Virtually every animation in TWW beta for Frost DK looks like outdated trash
  • The spec plays very clunky and rigid due to Pillar of Frost

Seriously, I’m trying to figure out why this spec is so despised and forgotten. I still cannot fathom Paladins getting Ashbringer and Frost DK’s getting reforged toothpicks. As a former DK main, I considered voting with my wallet because that does come off as spiteful.

Diablo 4 players are seemingly getting access to a Frostmourne appearance before Death Knight’s. Excellent decision.

Why is it so hard to get give paying consumers what they want?

  • Better animations
  • Better spec design that doesn’t center around PoF and BoS
  • Equal treatment when it comes to talent tree design (how is it that a fire mage gets a baseline cheat death, but shamans have to spend talent points for one that’s 99% inferior. See what I mean? Who the hell is designing these classes?)

For Unholy DKs, you need to drop your egos and accept the fact that the player base does not want your terribly received festering wound system. For nearly a DECADE the player base has been begging you expansion after expansion to revamp the system, and you refuse to budge - that is DISGRACEFUL.

My God …enough is enough. Please fix DKs!

Shamans (all of the specs) exist so Frost cannot be the most ignored.

Frost also very commonly gets changes players asked for, including some favorites like:

  • 2 KM charges
  • GA on KM consumption
  • Baseline MoTFW
  • Bigger Obliterates (in some form)

It’s not great by any means but if people ask for something, get it, and then don’t like it, that’s really on them.

That type of sentiment is probably a large part of why some feel FDK is “ignored” as you put it. Why complain about a DW spec being built around DW? Doesn’t make any sense.

The reason most probably thinks Frost is ignored is because they want Cleaving Strikes and Breath to be removed even after Blizzard said it’s not happening.

If the best feedback people on the forums can give is “remove DND cleave and breath pls” and give zero feedback outside of that, it’s going to obviously be ignored.

What animations are you referencing here? The only ones that I’ve felt are problematic are Breath and GA. Remorseless isn’t great, but it’s not 1994 GA bad.

Edit: I could also see AMS and Death Coil but the Death Coil skull is covered by the trail anyways so you never really see it.

You can add Frost Strike consuming more RP during pillar for Obliteration builds to do more damage to “fix” the resource issue… even though unless Frost Strike does as much damage as Obliterate why use it even if it costs more?

Well that is not fair… Resto is good some times… Some times.

I think as of right now ele shammy had to cancel a hero talent because it’s a dps loss to use it over lightning bolt.

Frost dk is a lot of things, but shaman takes the crown of neglect. It’s a pretty spectacular lead too.

Yeeeeah. I would definitely say Shaman takes the lead as the most neglected class, not even spec.

Course Hunter was once part of that but it received some pretty good changes to the talent trees

Who has it worse. The neglected Ele Sham, or the Holy paladin who gets attention that makes the spec less fun?

Resto shaman is awesome and enhance is pretty good, even if not the craziest numbers both are super fun and smooth to play.

Ele is stinky though

frost is alive and. doing very well in tww so far

All the feedback about frost and the rider hero talents has been pretty positive. The new trees are by no means perfect but I think there are a huge improvement.

Enhancement might be the best spec in the game for a player that has no interest in pushing content or as an alt of someone that does. It is fun to play and thematic. It has lots of QoL things that make it extremely efficient in world content. Even its mitigation being tied into healing allows it to solo far more things than most realize.

Its when you start trying to push content that it falls off a cliff. No amount of fun can overcome having target caps when most classes don’t and the meta is to pull big. No amount of healing can overcome getting deleted. The utility is very niche. Even Windfury totem is riding on a reputation it built a decade ago (the modern version sucks and is a damage loss for the shaman to take).

As to the OP’s question of the most forgotten spec in the game? That would have to be elemental shaman. I’m not aware of any other spec with a hero talent that is a dps loss to use. People on the beta are having to use a /cancelaura macro.

I’ll be honest. IMHO the biggest judgment fail they ever made with DKs was making Blood the Tank Tree and not Frost. Back in Wrath I loved Blood DPSing. Losing it for this Dual Wield mess, was like robbing me of my main in Wrath.

Diablo 4 Players are getting Frostmourne before Frost DKs.

This is clown activities and there’s no defending it.

Just because you liked something that wasnt up to par doesnt mean it should have continued forward.

You mean having the benefits of 2 weapons while having numbers that were that of a 2h, or even better? Whats wrong with that?

Is it still the legendary sword of the lich king or is it more like the legendary sword of 6D chess playing Zovaal? /s

Crazy that they are still cashing in on such a good villain and they gave him such a piss poor sendoff in SL.

Still BS, but it is what it is.

isn’t the purpose of this to help with maintaining unleashed frenzy and icy talons and not making pressing RP spenders in pillar feel quite so bad?

Good doesn’t mean they’re not ignored lol. They’ve complaining how absolutely trash Earth Ele is as a defensive and how shift is inadequate for nearly 2 years now.

In retail? i’d take Ele. In TWW, hpal. At least lightsmith seems useful.

It is wild how Shaman has such a huge defensive issue and the hero talents give them next to no help with it while classes like DK get some of the most absurd defensive boosts in their hero trees on top of even more baseline tankyness. Really hope the last few weeks before TWW are just stacks of Shaman changes.

The gripe I have is about the thematic direction of death knights.

Frost DK is visually unsatisfying and PoF and BOS don’t feel great to play around. I’d love to see less focus around our pillar / BOS windows and better way to display skill expression.

Does anyone actually enjoy the zit-popping class fantasy of Unholy? I find it insulting. Apocalypse now functions without bursting festering wounds and fester might has been nerfed.

Why do wounds exist again? Focus on the disease gameplay and create more ways of skill expression from that angle. Festering wounds is garbage and also has zero visual identity.

I’m getting annoyed typing this - thanks everyone. Taking a break!
