Which troubleshooting steps did they try?
Did they already have the base TWW edition? Upgrading to a higher tie doesn’t grant another boost.
I’m under the impression it can occasionally take a little time to appear. Had they completely logged out then back into the game?
They just bought the epic edition as their first purchase. Yes a complete log out and in and yet no boost icon. Honestly, kinda embarrassing to introduce someone to wow and have all of these issues.
Id give it 24r hrs then open a purchase failure ticket. All digital purchases can take up 2 24hrs to fly process.

It can take a little time to appear. It’s usually nigh instantanous but I’m reading a thread where someone returned a few hours later and, after relogging, there it was.
I’d use that time to explore some classes and get the hang of things.
Just to add on to what Darthwraith said, your friend will need to open a ticket to have this looked into. You will not be able to submit a ticket on their behalf.
Given the purchase is showing as complete, there are a few things your friend can do:
If the boost still doesn’t appear, then your friend will need to submit a purchase failure ticket.
However, it may be the case where your friend already had The War Within Base Edition. You’ll only receive one boost per WoW license and will not receive another boost upon upgrading.
I know you said your friend purchased The War Within for the first time. I just wanted to set the proper expectations as we have seen instances in the past where someone forgot they did have the Base Edition previously.

If it hasn’t been 24 hours yet that ticket isn’t going to help any, the GM will just have them wait the standard processing time before doing any troubleshooting is needed.
Is the boost the only thing they’re missing? Is it possible the purchase may have failed?
Mine didn’t show up yesterday until after I played a character for a few, opened my mount, found some pets, then when I logged back out it was there in the top right corner above the character list. Just give it a little time to pop up.
Also the boost is in the very top right corner. Not where it used to be. So, make sure your friend is looking in the right place.
It may take some time.
Also, when relogging - lots of folks don’t realize it is the launcher AND the game, not just the game. That’s what triggers an update if that is the issue.
