Friend got silenced in game for being afk

You realize that Asmongold proved on his stream in front of 20k people that you’re wrong. He typed ‘‘I love Blizzard,’’ and asked 20 people to report him. Is ‘‘I love Blizzard breaking ToS?’’

As I have said, he was describing the bans. Please read his further comments.

That is what he is referencing. It is simply poor wording on his part initially.

Alterac Valley is seeing this abuse of people defending or doing something else and getting mass reported for AFK and then banned for a month.

Yup gonna take that as a sign your friend was probably a bigot in chat breaking the social contract he agreed too and was reported for his behaviour I advise you and your friend maybe consider not breaking the rules you’ve agreed to follow in the future :dracthyr_shrug:

20k live people saw that all it took was mass reporting and not breaking TOC, if you’re still stubborn because you want to win a debate, than you’re the problem.

All Asmongold proved when he did that is that when someone gets enough reports there is action taken. And that is working as intended.

There is not going to be a report system that won’t be abused or exploited in some way. If your friend was actually AFK and got reported for it, then they are not guilty of anything and the appeal will most likely go through.

I don’t really go AFK much in group content… so nothing like this has ever happened to me. And in fact I have never received action for anything in game. These things happen unfortunately.

Dude, GMs can’t react in 0.1 seconds.

He proved it was automated.

people know about hte automated system now, its much easier to abuse report system, doing that means the reported cant join groups or queue anything, chat, use mailbox, etc.

if someones mad and wants to hit someone hard, automated silence is much more impact than boot for afk

There’s been auto-modding in the game since WoD so of course if you get enough people reporting you, it’ll be actioned. It’s same on the forum.

They are two examples of how these systems are abused. His friend was AFK. This is the AV situation. He is also describing other incidents. I am unsure why you choose to be antagonistic about this.

Yes abusing the reporting system by having people submit false reports is breaking the ToS.

I mean, AV AFKers should probably get banned.

Any AFKers in group content would just get their toons deleted if I were in charge so, a week ban is probably soft ?

But the fact remains : the system is automated and ripe for abuse.

No one ever gets in trouble for that. Come on, they’re not gonna ban 40 people over their subjective view that they were inconvenienced. You can’t police people’s feelings.

Like, I’m really mad about your post right now. I’m gonna report it even though there’s no rule breaking in it, I feel really distraught just having read it. Really, I’m being 100% genuine here.

Those used to get people a 24 hour squelch. Or simply removed from the content in the case of AFK reports. Now it is actual month long bans.

Because if he’s friend was “afk” he wouldn’t be able to type in chat and be mass reported in the first place

I see you are still refusing to read and understand. Good day to you.

They should and there might be less abuse.

Yes, but it’s still good to at least try so then it isn’t on your record/what not to say next time

I am like being silenced is a punishment from being reported in the in game chat if they were mass reported for just standing around afk they’d probably get a temporary suspension not banned in a chat they couldn’t be typing in if their afk aka away from keyboard you know the thing that’s required to type in chat

It’s entirely subjective. You can’t police people’s emotions. “Did this really freak you out and upset you ? Yes, ok well we can’t action you for a false report, but we can’t act on your report because it wasn’t rule breaking”.

It’s so easy to report in bad faith and pretend in bad faith that you got upset over it.

That’s why automated actions based on number of reports alone should not exist. Because once people know about them, it’s easy to organize report campaigns. Now imagine if people figured out the tresholds…

Yeah it sucks. But unfortunately it won’t change. This is not something new. This is the way Blizz wants the report system to work. They want it automated. So anyone silences, suspended or banned has to appeal.

And unfortunately for OP or anyone affected, there’s no one on the forums but other players. So all we can say is it sucks and has for a while.
