Friend Bought a PC online that had some sort of ban?

Hey as titles says, my friend bought a PC online off someone and it seemed to ban his account. does blizzard Hardware ban? the PC had really good specs and was sold cheap, I thought he was going to be ripped off in another way, but it seems a ban carried over from previous owner? PC was shipped from Pennsylvania to Georgia. I can probably provide more info, I just dont know what els to say. is there a process to get his account unbanned? like showing proof of recent purchase or anything?

did he run a full anti virus etc on the unit before logging in or installing anything?

Possibly it has some kind of malware on it and took his details

Nope, Blizzard doesn’t hardware ban as it’s quite easy to circumvent.

You friend needs to do this, as Blizzard will not discuss anything with a third party.

Account action applies to the account, not the hardware or the network.

Your friend had his specific account actioned. The change in hardware had nothing to do with it, and has nothing to do with restoring it.

Only thing I can think of is that Warden detected something installed. Any sort of cheat program, or automation program even if not being used on WoW could be detected by Warden (Blizzard anti-cheat system) and result in account action.

If the hard drives on the new PC hadn’t been formatted/reverted back to a fresh OS install, this could very well be the case.

so as far as I know, he got thhe PC, installed discord, battle.net launcher, and wow. then launched game, Joined our group for Mythic + and by the time dungeon was over he got banned.

Seems to me there was something already on that machine that triggered Warden and so account was banned.

Your friend needs to appeal via the link provided by Stormfury. That’s all he can do.

He would have received an email from Blizzard outlining a general reason for the ban too.

idk if iimigure is allowed. iguess we will find out. imgur .com /a/kXhbESc this is the email he got

Wow that’s a bit more serious than Warden finding something. Also sounds very final. Has nothing to do with hardware.

Real money trading is absolutely not allowed.

Hmm, could well be something that happened even before getting the new computer.

yeah, Im pretty sure he doesnt RMT. we carry HIM lol
im 3,370 IO. and hes like 2k-2.3

That doesn’t mean that he didn’t purchase carries or some other service through an illegal website or service outside of what you guys do with or for him. It doesn’t mean they accepted RMT, but they could have easily been the purchaser.

The bad thing is (and we have unfortunately seen it too many times), is that too often friends come here only having their friend’s word against the charges leveled against them. While they can swear up and down they didn’t do this thing, you only have their word. And unfortunately, it often comes out later down the line that the friend actually did what Blizzard accuses them of after their friend has come here to clear their name.

Now, I will also say that Blizzard admits they’re not perfect. Mistakes can happen. That is why the appeals process is available to folks. It’s not a place for your friend to plead their case, only that a fresh pair of eyes looks over all of the data. Please make sure they do appeal the sanction unless they fess up that they did something sketchy to merit the ban.

There is likely very little that we could tell you, Crytwo. We generally would only deal with the registered person on the account and even then, the information in the email is all the details we usually can give.

Just for the sake of argument, if there were such a thing as a hardware ban, they simply wouldn’t have been able to log in, it wouldn’t automatically close the account and send an email.

Given the message it is probably unlikely that something on your friend’s computer would have caused the account to be closed, as it sounds behavioral. The activities responsible for the action almost certainly were from activity that took place within the last few weeks and not something that they were doing at the time the penalty was applied.

As Stormfury mentioned, they’ll want to submit an appeal if they feel the penalty was made in error. That is the best way to get the action reviewed again to see if an error was made.
