Hi all! I am coming to WoW for wotlk after a very long break and will be rolling on a fresh start realm. I’m trying to figure out which class I want to take to 80 first and main for the expansion. I really enjoy the playstyle of both of these classes, but ultimately want to choose one that has a strong spot and desirability end game.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Both are strong for end game I couldn’t put one over the other this is a preference choice. High crit fire mage late game is fun but the same can be said for high dps marksman late.
Mage is more boring early imo because arcane is too simple and hunter early is fun in survival before mm comes online later.
For that I’d say hunter is better

Hunter, if only to unlock Death Knight quicker.
Mage, saves you both time and money.
Free food and water, teleports, what else could you need for a fresh server were gold is precious.

This is true, I really noticed this when playing my mage in SoM.
Also, hunters have ammo and pet food where most classes don’t.
Really though OP they are both solid ranged DPS classes. You should be able to get groups just fine with either (although it may be slightly easier with mage). It really depends on what you’ll have the most fun playing.
That’s what I did in OG WotLK.
Flip a coin, and pick the class you hope it lands on.
Mm is stronger than survival right from the start.
