I’m saving mine. I have epic flying but not paying 4700 for an extra 20 percent flying speed. Save that gold. 
280 is definitely worth. 310 not really.
I fly slow. I play eve too. Wow slow flying is nothing compared to 23 jumps across the space of eve’s new Eden lol.
To me it’s all about perspective.
What changes with regards to flying after Cata content is available on the map?
NOTHING could keep me from shaving off that much time flying around. The price is always worth it if you’re flying enough. I’ve earned more than that from archaeology and probably saved an hour of flying comparatively.
If you’re a miner or herbalist if you can, do. You have to be at least faster than a druid.

I ain’t spending 9+k on my bill payers though, not yet.
Nothing other than the new zones don’t port you out. Nothing gets cheaper
