And it makes sense they would try to replicate First Ones technology, and use it craft new beings, like they did with the Titanforged. They just never figured out how to do it on a cosmic level. Would explain why places like Draenor and Azeroth developed such radically different life forms.
Like I said, the various Zeriths are a great concept. They just needed more fleshing out, would’ve been fine if blizz was dropping hints over several expansions, instead of dumping all this info, out of nowhere mind you, on us all at once.
Even Zooval would’ve been fine, if we got hints of him during Wrath, could’ve had scourge mutter something like He’s watching, always watching or something when we killed them. Instead of finding out NOW that’s he’s been the ultimate evil up until this point and expecting the fans to care.
Truthfully? I don’t think anyone is actually bothered or upset by finding out life in Warcraft is massed produced by machines. We all seem to upset that we’re just finding this out NOW, instead of you know, a little hint here and there during the expansions that dealt with titan tech.
That was my first thought too tbh. That they were going for the “magic is just science that we don’t yet understand.” Still meh. That’s not what I’m playing a fantasy game for.
Never was a fan of titan tech, but I’m not shocked by these new developments. Seems on-par with titan tech to me. Remember that like half of Azeroth races are supposed to be literal robots?
That is fair for sure, and totally valid. It probably helps I actually like the sort of retro blocky manapunk vibe they have going on with the progenitors, tbh.
Which is why I’m personally not as upset as a few people here who are. Everyone’s forgetting literally 90% of Azeroths races were machine forged. Exception being the trolls/kaldorei.
Since there’s a Zerith for every cosmic power…that would mean literally every single race has been 3D printed at one point in time. Least according to the new lore we’re getting.
Which, is totally fine, if like I said, we were getting hints of such a thing over a course of several expansions.
My point was that this whole thing to me doesn’t feel much different to the giant machine-like rooms with actual anti-virus systems where a robotic voice goes “initiating scan” and where you literally “hack into the mainframe” to disable it.
When I was getting into WoW lore for the first time, I remember being disappointed that so much of it seemed “artificial”.
I don’t like the 3D printed gods, I just don’t feel like it’s a new idea for WoW.
I am sort of curious about Kaldorei now tbh. Since they are Elune’s favorites in the entire universe I am gonna guess she made them in her image. Did they even come from trolls? who knows now.
Thats what I think got people like Baal upset. Since there is a Zerith for every cosmological force mass producing life forms, most of the Azerothian creation myths can be thrown out the window.
I mean that was Chronicle material, in game the Elves dont believe that as far as I know. I am pretty sure it would offend both sides to have it suggested.
How about “convenience”? Corpses are much easier to manage than living ones. They are useless, absolutely obedient … At least, they can be folded somewhere and be sure that in a week they will not crawl away.
I honestly doubt they expected WoW to last this long. Even Ghostcrawler once said they already had a general idea of how Warcraft would end…that was back in Wrath. If Overwatch had taken off an actual MMO, WoW might already be in maintenance mode now(Legion could have been a good end point). But that didn’t happen, so now Warcraft has to keep going on and this new lore could potentially keep it going for a decade or more(heck sprinkle in some Time travel expansions, a faction war expansion here and there and we are looking at about two decades of expansion content).
