Free Transfer from Thunderfury. What realm should you choose to go to?

Looks like we got our free transfers. Unfortunately, it isn’t to the realms most people would want to go to… of course, it wouldn’t be…

Now the question is which realm should you transfer to if you want to take this free transfer option.

Arugal: While this realm does have a sizeable and decent population. It is an oceanic realm thus your connection may not be the best. It is also primarily horde for the few alliance left on Thunderfury.

Bigglesworth: Is one of the dying realms. I am completely unsure as to why Blizzard would put this on the list. This is a trap do not transfer here you will be looking to transfer again in a few months. Factions are also massively unbalanced in the horde’s favor.

Earthfury: While I do not consider this one of the dying realms… There is, however, a real concern to transfer here as after the current set of dying realms die, these ones would be next. If you are Alliance do not transfer here as you have no home. It is dead on the alliance side. Horde if you want to take a chance you could bolster this realm and bring the realm up to a solid mid-population realm.

Fairbanks: This is just pretty much a copy of Earthfury, but slightly less populated. Everything that applies to Earthfury applies here.

Grobbulus: This realm would be my overall recommendation for both alliance and horde. If you are willing to get over the whole RP thing. It is the best choice for your future time in WoW without the other mega-realms being on the list. It is the fourth biggest realm and our remaining Horde population would really help to balance out their realms faction balance bring it to more normal levels. In addition, this is also the realm a few former Thunderfury members fled to alongside Benediction and Faerlina.

Herod: Another one of the dying realms. Do not transfer here.

Netherwind: This realm is worse off then Thunderfury why is this on the list.

Sulfuras: This is just a better version of Earthfury.

Yojamba: Another Oceanic realms so I do not recommend going here.

We need Horde. We strive for balance.

Your write-up is pretty fair. I test transferred a level 14 horde from Thunderfury to Grobbulus and it worked.

Note that ALL realms now have that transfer list. There are now free transfers from Herod, Netherwind, Thunderfury, Fairbanks, and all of the old realms to those listed realms.

Also, Firemaw (EU) is now having queues of up to 90 minutes regardless of the layering with a 35k raiding pop. There are a bunch of threads about it over there.

Really? Now that makes me wonder if they are actually going to try and break up Benediction, Faerlina, and Whitemane. Granted Grobbulus isn’t that far behind those three so if they are going to take that action it would be weird for Grobbulus to be a target.

Yes, and maybe, here’s a thread that was shared with me by a friend (there are more):
102min queue on Firemaw?! - WoW Classic / Burning Crusade Classic Discussion - World of Warcraft Forums (blizzard.com)

Netherwind : This realm is worse off then Thunderfury why is this on the list.

Yeah…Everyone on Netherwind wants to get off of it. There are like 300 raiders left.

Very good post, and you are correct about bigglesworth. I also STRONGLY suggest everyone transfers to grobbulus. The horde from Fairbanks, Faerlina, earth fury, sulfuras, and bigglesworth should even put grobbulus’ population.

Used my free transfer to Sulfuras !!!

Nah, #1 Grobbulus is toxic af. They tax(ed) people coming out of starting zones or they threatened to blacklist them if they didn’t pay up. #2 why prop up a big server when you could make a mid really healthy like Sulfuras?

Sulfuras is dying, and NA needs a fun balanced world PvP server. Sulfuras will be no better off than earthfury/fairbanks/biggles in a few months.

I don’t know if I can say that yet. Though I have to agree out of the four realms after the Big 6. Sulfuras definitely has the biggest chance of dying. It is the only one that has been trending downward while the other three have more or less been stable. Despite Ashkandi having a slightly lower population than Sulfuras. It has the whole somewhat balanced faction thing for those players still looking for WPvP. However, it wasn’t a target option so it is kind of a moot point.

Not going to get very far packing in 3-4 servers. At some point, Blizz will connect the realms and kill off the deadweight ones like Netherwind, Stalagg, etc. with no one on them. Grobbulus is toxic af and just not worth it. They used to tax people coming out of starter zones or threaten to blacklist them ffs. Not to mention it’s on the West Coast. Sulf has potential if people give it a shot. Quite a few guilds and gdkps on there and a healthier population then Earthfury, Biggles, and Fairbanks.

See above.

Well then west coast players will go to Grobb atleast, and ping does not matter that much in this game. Taxed out of the starter zone? How old are you? Sounds like you had a bad experience at level 10 and are trying to tell people not to balance out the only PvP server in the entire western Hemisphere that has the potential to be a fun world pvp server for the rest of TBC and Wrath.

Talk to the RPers on Grobb not me lol. I am telling it how it is and you’re upset that I am not following the narrative I guess. Blizzard has given the players the opportunity to make another server that isn’t Faerlina, Grobb, Whitemane, or Benediction healthy…so why not? Ping is huge for a lot of things esp high rating in arena and esp melee classes.

Because horde is already split between Whitemane and Faerlina megaservers. A third horde megaserver of equivalent size is not possible. The best we can do is Grobbulus which has the highest % of horde on the list of free transfers, it would be a well balanced and full server if horde flood to there.

number of horde - % horde - region (omitted Arugal and Yojamba because they’re Oceanic)

data from ironforge.pro

Grobbulus 4446 (37%) - west
Sulfuras 3937 (99%) - east
earthfury 2686 (97%) - east
Fairbanks 2681 (98%) - west
Bigglesworth 1488 (92%) - west
Herod 1308 (99%) - east
Thunderfury 840 (81%) - west
Netherwind 512 (8%) - east

Most of the population (when you include central) play on east coast servers. Creating another east coast server is in the best interests of the game compared to propping up an already large west coast toxic dump. Add on the fact that you are advocating for people to increase their ping substantially and it’s just awful. You said I am turning people away from Grobb and that’s definitely true. 1) it’s toxic af and 2) I would go from 40 ms to 80-100ms playing on that server. It’s not worth it or wise.

Well, if I waited 2 weeks, I could saved myself a couple hundred dollars transferring from Thunderfury to Grobbulus.

Not that it was a bad choice.
