For context I have a RTX 3080ti for my GPU and an Intel i9 for my CPU and normally run the game at max settings with shadows turned down to Good and view distance to 8. And I will usually get about 45 frames in Valdrakken and 60 frames everywhere else.
However since this patch with those same settings I am getting 15 FPS everywhere. The only thing the works is turning my settings all the way down. What’s really odd is sometimes for the first few moments I turn the game on, it will seem like normal but than after a few moments performance crashes and I will get 15 or less FPS. This is happening even with all settings turned down
This is happening with zero add-ons installed, drivers are up to do date. I have factory reset my computer, reinstalled WoW, and tried reverting to a previous graphics driver. None of these have fixed the issue. Any help as to what could possibly have happened would be appreciated.
Check your gpu and cpu temps if it’s fine for a short while in the beginning then tanks.
Also describe if it’s low fps or if it’s stutters. Low fps is it’s choppy but still moving around. Stutters are actual mini freezes of the game where it’s 0 fps.
Low fps = performance issues (temps, low clocks). Stutters = incompatibility/crashes (disk usage spikes, driver issues)
It almost seems like a combination of both. It’s consistently under 15 FPS even at the lowest graphic settings very choppy to the point of being unusable. This only just started happening after downloading the Tuesday patch – never had this happen before.

Ok so low fps? Get yourself some measurement tools. I prefer msi afterburner with rivatuner but anything that measures temps and clock speeds in a graph form will work.
Run the tools and check if high temps or low clock speeds during the time of issues.
After playing for a bit it’s definitely both low FPS and also a stutter. I have tried reverting to a previous driver, no change. I updated back, no change. I reset to default setting in BIOS, no change. I’m losing my mind trying to figure this out.
Looks like my CPU is about 11% usage while playing and my GPU is 95%+ and sitting at 92 degrees celcius. Is that normal?
That’s way overheating. Stop gaming immediately. You are about to fry your computer
What gpu do you have and did you download msi afterburner
RTX 3080ti laptop GPU. I didn’t download MSI afterburner I just found the temp using CTRL+ALT+DEL.
I meant which company made the gpu. And yes I would download msi afterburner. Need to get a program that works with your gpu to check the fan profile
Nvidia. I’m on a Razer Blade 17.
So weird. I downloaded Diablo 4 to test out another game and the game won’t even launch. I scanned and repaired, couldn’t launch. I uninstalled and reinstalled, couldn’t launch.
So, WoW is unplayable and my machine won’t even launch a freshly installed Daiblo 4. WTF!
I was pretty clear about stopping gaming immediately. You will fry your computer with the issue you are having. Razer is a system builder. Was asking what the component maker is for the gpu…asus, msi, gigabyte, founders.
Download msi afterburner at the least and you can use that to set your fans from auto to 100%. You will know it’s working when it gets very loud. If it doesn’t then mention that
yeah I am having problems as well - they did something with the patch or a hotfix that messed things up. I was getting some stuttering yesterday but today the game is basically unplayable.
Sounds like your fans may have stopped working or are full of dust. This is not a normal operating temperature and continued use at this temp will degrade the components (greatly shorten lifespan). If you’re not hardware savvy, you should take the laptop to a repair shop.
Yes something was done recently that is causing WoW not to play nicely with others. I am currently in the process of diagnosing the issue on my end to hone in on my exact issue but if you want to test on your end if you have something similar follow these steps:
- Press your windows key, and search for “Event Viewer”
- Left hand side of the viewer, click on “Windows Logs”
- Click on “System”
- Look at all the red/error events during the times that you experienced errors in WoW. Look for something graphics related
- If you have an NVidia card…look up “nvlddmkm” and if it has any errors. Its a catch all for errors.
If you have any errors, feel free to post what they are and I can give you some steps for a bit of a drastic approach to helping solve it or at least narrow down the culprit.
I have nothing graphics related in the window logs (just a couple of windows updates that didn’t instal) . Windows updates can cause the same sort of issue but those errors only happened twice and I had way more problems than that.
I will try with the NVidia card if I can find out where to do your search.
yeah you would need to just look at all errors during the time you had the errors in wow. should be the exact time stamp. May not be in the System section, you can look in that tool at other sections like Application
I updated my graphics card and did the windows update and now I am getting disconnected every 10 minutes or so.
Also have this problem. Tried to adjust settings and it doesn’t work. Updated to Win11 a couple of months ago had to reinstall the game. Also got the the pc cleaned. I’ve downloaded the MSI Afterburner and I don’t get over 59 degrees Celsius. Still I am stuck at 60fps. Have tried to play around with the graphic card settings without any luck. Also have small glitches when moving around, like it stops for a fraction of a second and then things seems normal again. Those glitches are pretty frequent and happens around every 3 to 4 seconds.
I have Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super Graphics card with the latest driver installed.
I had not played in a few days, returned this morning updated wow and logged in with horrible FPS. Disabled all my addons still horrible. Looked on the forums, found this thread, installed afterburner as advised. Discovered that my fans aren’t working at all. Out of nowhere. what on earth?
Are you able to force your fans on via afterburner or are they just dead?
I updated my drivers and now everything is back to normal. I’m a novice when it comes to this kind of thing so i’ll keep an eye on it but for now i’m just confused.
