FPS Drops/Stutters - unexplainable

Hey all,

I have been encountering some weird graphical stuttering since at least the last season of TWW. It seems to be worst in major cities and/or encounters with a ton of spell effects. Even in some dungeons I basically can’t play for 10 seconds some times due to my FPS dropping to literally 2-10 FPS.

I am puzzled because I have task manager and temp monitoring software open on my second monitor and my CPU never goes above 25% usage, my GPU never even reaches 10% , my temps all stay within 50c range or lower. I am legit puzzled as to why I am having these issues and they definitely impact my gameplay experience and ability to perform well.

Here are my specs:

i9-9900k
RTX 3060 TI
16 GB DDR4 RAM
750W PSU

The only thing that ever gets near 100% usage is my RAM and I’d say it generally hovers around 85%.

NVIDIA says I should be able to run the game comfortably on 7 but even if i drop the settings well below that I still have really bad FPS drops/stuttering.

I know it doesnt help but the new lightbloom area in Eversong woods even if I am standing still not in combat I can’t get above 30 FPS.

Any ideas? I disabled all of the checkboxes at the bottom of the settings - I do notice a bit less stuttering when “optional GPU features” is turned off but it is still bad.

I posted the same problem in General just now, cannot explain why on even lowest settings i get barley above 65 FPS, and on ultra high its like 60 fps, so something doesn’t feel optimized . Running an even more powerful setup than you are too, (4080 32gb ram, i9)

The new Blizz UI actually takes more RAM than the 3rd party ones. That is the root cause from what I have seen.

I am having same problem and I NEVER have graphics problems….ever. Total random blackouts, then just half the graphics will appear, frozen screens almost constantly, not limited to cities for me… happening in outdoor zones as well. Never have I had problems like these since 20 years ago when I was on dial up internet. My internet is super fast compared to most so that is not my problem. Help!

60 would be a dream compared to what I’m getting, pretty routinely stutters into sub-10 FPS sometimes for as much as 10 seconds.

None of my hardware is approaching even 30% usage (except RAM) so it’s very puzzling. CPU temps are mid 50s at worst.

Think there’s a memory leak.

Mine launches and runs using around 5gig, but after a while is in the 10-20gig range. If you only have 16 gig that would be an issue.

I am also experiencing this. FPS will dip anywhere I go and no matter what I set my graphics to.

Check settings for max foreground fps or target fps.
Also see if Vertical Sync is enabled which will limit FPS based on your monitor refresh rate.

I’m having issues with it freezing the graphics since 2/26. Changing chars almost always locks up the instance with or without addons running. Multiple computers experiencing this.

There’s the whole ignored megathread.

Does have a blizzard response and most of the posters keep trying to claim it’s a hardware issue - I know people with 5090s having this issue.
