FPS dropped from 100 to 40 since yesterday

I am getting full lockups. I have tweeted videos of it happening. It happens in things like hunter flares or areas with lots of particles. Likes to happen in key moments in pvp for some reason.

My FPS has dropped to the single digits since logging on today, even with all addons turned off, my FPS is so low that I can’t even play the game, defragged my computer, updated video drivers, optimized settings, nothing fixes it.

This is happening for me too. The game is not playable in this state. I even deleted my entire add-on folder.FF14 is playing fine so I know it isn’t a graphics card issue. Blizzard, please. I expected more. Things happen but this is obviously more than just a individual player issue. I am incredibly sad that after how many months of waiting that I cannot play the game. PVP, Dungeons, New Zones, Org, etc I have had unbearable lag in all zones.

For me, I’ve only had it happen in Korthia, except once in Revendreth. I’m almost willing to bet money that Revendreth is close enough for the vomit in the air attack from that rare to be detected, and that’s why it’s stuttering there as well.

I steadily maintain 90-100 frames in almost all situations until that one specific moment. Then I maintain a steady 40 for 5 minutes. And then it gets fixed. Running a 2060 super with Nvidia up to date.

Yes, as people said its those damn “soul tornadoes” in korthia that make my fps drop from over 100 to about 25. Never had that happen before so there has to be something blizzard can do to fix this.

All zones, for me is one specific character. I suppose I have several mouseover macros , almost every helpful spell is mouseover. Keep in mind that even standing still without casting or doing anything, just idling in oribos my FPS never goes above 40.

Another GM logged onto my character and noticed a 60 fps difference between my character and their own, I am not sure they would have my macros just by accessing my character.

Per the technical specialist that contacted me:

I was able to also verify this on logging into your character Alathea then logging into my own character about a 60FPS difference. I attempted to clear any hidden buffs on the character and test it with no gear made no difference.

If the issue continues from here. It is likely related to an asset not working properly that is only found on this character model. I certainly would recommend to bug report this issue for our QA and Developers to review.

Out of curiosity. I deleted all my macros (there are lots but dont worry i made a backup)

After making sure to delete them all, reload the game, the FPS was unaffected. For better or for worse it has nothing to do with my macros either.

I’ve had terrible framerate in Shadowlands areas with a lot of mist particles. Is there a way to alleviate this? Certain dungeons are almost unplayable due to the framerate.

This has been an interesting discussion, nearly all of the buttons on my main bar are macros, although only three or four are mouseover ones.
I’ve not logged in since reading about this, when I do I’ll try and test this hypothesis.

I did an M+ earlier, Plaguefall, and it was close to unplayable at times. Being an Australian playing on a US server I’m used to thinking ahead and allowing for that latency but this sort of lag is much, much worse.

I described it in the Map FPS thread, I’ll have another go here.
It feels like my FPS surges, like my games tries to catch up to where it should be but once it’s there it lags behind and then tries to catch up again. Unlike a consistent high ping this is hard to play around as it isn’t consistent, I get it just being in combat out in the world too.

It makes it very hard to enjoy playing, I’ve hardly done any of the new content because of it, the desire to log in wanes.

Sounds like you’re already working with ticket support on this. For the time being, that’ll be the best thing to do since they can ask for files we don’t ask for on the forums for privacy reasons. Support should be able to help you figure out why this is happening just for your main.

upon reading this, i disabled Carbonite Quest module, and my fps in SL zones is back to normal. i can leave the addon running in non-SL zones without any fps loss, so i am curious as to why a quest addon would futz ‘the current zones we should be playing in’

Anyone else here getting fps drops and stuttering when opening the map? Wasn’t fixed on the last shutdown and have nothing to do with addons or drivers also.

Yup. It’s really bad today after whatever hotfix/update they did last night. Only happening on characters with 9.1 as odd as that sounds.

Hey all,

Please note that because numerous things can cause performance issues, we can’t help all of you in one thread. I’d recommend you either create your own threads or contact support. The OP is already working with support on their issue.

I hadd this yesterday, and on checking the in game graphics settings, while in Korthia, the game had weirdly selected a ‘TARGET FPS’ of 50fps - I have never actually selected a target FPS. Once i deslected this, it went back to normal - it re-selected this setting a few hours later, randomly. Deselected it again, it went back to normal.

I found Korthia was randomly altering my ‘TARGET FPS’ setting in Graphics settings. Deselect this, and it jumped back to 144fps

I think this is due to the new grpahics settings in Game SYSTEM>ADVANCED>Target FPS. I dont remember this ever being there before, and it seems to randomly turn on a target fps of 50, which drops the fps like crazy. Deselecting it resolves the issue. It just randomly selected itself on in my game and the fps dropped from 144fps to 50fps in a few seconds. Turning off Target FPS got rid of it.

I’ve only been testing it for a couple minutes, but this may have just fixed the multitude of FPS issues I was having as well, including the map stutter everyone is reporting!

Edit: I take it back, map stutter and quest objective update stutter are still there but in general performance seems better in general since deselecting the Target FPS setting. I’m getting way less stuttering/FPS drops other than those specific instances everyone seems to be having issues with rn.

I usually get at least 120 FPS and yesterday noticed that I was getting exactly 42 FPS with no variation. I tried deleting my Interface, Cache, and WTF folders, tinkering with the “Target FPS”, adjusting settings in GeForce Experience, nothing.

Finally what fixed it was turning off Vsync in game. I have a 144hz G-Sync monitor and I’m not sure I recall Vsync ever making the framerates drop before, but I don’t see any reason to have it on particularly with that kind of impact…

Hello!

I bring good tidings!

Instead of going through the character transfer route, I decided to test my character in the PTR environment (you know, so i could freely delete things without fear)

I quickly discovered the culprit.

This quest from pandaria - To catch a spy was preventing my FPS from rising. Upon dropping the quest, my FPS came flooding back, it was amazing. I can also confirm this resolved my issue on live servers, mods and all.
