FPS dropped from 100 to 40 since yesterday

with the release of 9.1 the first thing i noticed was my FPS dropped from averageing 80-100 to 20-40

I disabled all mods, set all graphic settings to minimum, and the best i can do is 60.

nvidia card is up to date with version 4.71.11 which was working well.

what happened!

similar issue with me. my main just did the Maldraxxus calling and fps there never got above 20. however, she got into a Ahune queue and the fps was okay (70fps) during that instance, then back to <20 upon zoning back into Seat of Primus

My issue is very mysterious. I went through the trouble of resintalling wow from scratch, deleting all folders even.

To my surprise, the FPS issue persists…except on my non 60 alts. Only my main character is affected by this, i decided to log on to alts just to see, and was shocked that even in Oribos my level 51 hunter has 100 fps no problem. My main even transported to Draenor Garrison, and is still 40 fps

I noticed this yesterday as well. Where during 9.0.5 I regularly had 120-144fps, yesterday after 9.1 in the same areas I was seeing 40-60fps instead. The Battle for Ardenweald was horrible for me (40fps or below), which shouldn’t have been as I would normally get 110-120fps during Castle Nathria and other story line scenarios… I’m hoping this is related to some of the bugs the first update they rolled out is supposed to fix.

For some players, addons were found to be a big interference (especially World Quests List). Make sure to check for updates – I recommend WoWUp.io for doing this. However, keep in mind that the individual developers are responsible for making their addon work with the new patch.

Doubt this is it, as outlined above even with ALL addons turned off it still persists.
I’m also getting this, ever since the patch I’ve turned down graphics settings to 1 from 7 and still no improvement.

Not sure what happened but SOMETHING changed. From 120-140 fps to 40-60 is frustrating to say the least.

Mine too, I was at around 120-130 FPS prepatch, and now I’m at about 40-50, and my game is extremely blurry, but only on my monk. If I play my shadow priest, everything is fine, but if I log on my monk, as soon as I hit Korthia, I am getting 40 FPS and my game looks like I am looking at a red and blue 3D image without the glasses.

Correction: Just logged back on my priest and it’s doing it on there too. :frowning:

Not sure if this will help anyone in here, but just for the sake of trying it, I installed nVidia Geforce Experience and had it optimize my settings, and the issue went away. I didn’t catch what settings it changed unfortunately but it could be a graphics setting.

Turning off addons in the menu doesn’t prevent them from loading. Unless you meant you renamed the directory?

Might be a worthwhile step for others on nVidia cards.

I renamed WTF folder to try with 0 addons and no fix… this is wild man I cant find anyone who knows how this happened.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Perhaps this might help some players but not me.

To clarify, i uninstalled wow, deleted all left over folders from the game folder, reinstalled again with no mods, and the issue persisted but only for my main max level character. Alts were fine.

I re-enabled all mods to see if mods were causing the issue as well. I was suprised to find my alts were completely fine even after putting everything back.

So to summarize, the issue affects 1 specific character with or without mods. Even after a fresh reinstall of the game. I think the issue affected only my main from the beginning i just never tried to use my alts until after i reinstalled the game.

A GM suggested i try to use DirectX11 (i didnt think it was going to help since it shoudl affect all toons equally, but i still tried it )

maybe it can help someone else, just not me.

This actually happened to me a few times in Korthia. It’s like it’s not optimized. Rocking 60 constantly then all of a sudden a static 45. Only way to fix it was typing /reload. I don’t use addons.

I’m seeing the same problem. Regardless what I do in 9.1 my FPS is locked to 60. Even with no addons and minimum settings on everything I am still bouncing between 59-60 fps.

It’s definitely not a resource constraint either. At my current settings my GPU is ~40% used, my CPU is 15% used and I have ~40g ram free.

It seems to me that the FPS target is being applied regardless of my settings. I have no idea what the code looks like but I think something is applying a default value. If I reload the UI it will lock at 99-100 FPS for a short while then revert back to 59-60 FPS. Those numbers are pretty suspiciously not random.

Do you use help/harm macros by any chance? Iv noticed that whenever I swap between hostile/friendly targets my FPS drops it doesn’t matter if its mouseover, tab target, or just using a self heal key. I also noticed that on my toons with no help/harm macros my fps doesn’t drop.

is it only the fact that you have the macros? or only when you use them?

my FPS is stable at 40fps no matter what I am doing

My FPS is stable until I start swapping from friendly to hostile targets.

Guys over at EU are complaining about the same problem.

I believe you, but I dont believe this is my problem. My FPS is unaffected, wether I am standing still or swapping targets or fighting, it is 40 or less (cuz you know its wow)

I do use mouseover macros however, I will keep an eye for additional issues with this. For now, I dont think it is my main issue.

So I noticed this as well. I got caught up and just been waiting for rares in Korthia to see where and how they spawn. I see huge frame drops. Go from 140+ and game just drops to 30-40 fps. Its always when the blue anima is spewing into the sky. Unless you set your draw distance to next to nothing around you there is nothing on our end that is gonna fix this.
And yes once the spew is gone FPS jumps back up. As I was typing this I saw it drop then jump back up again.

Are you still getting 140+ in 9.1? I tried setting my draw distance, detail and everything to 1 and it still didn’t budge above 60…

I found the reason of this cause… It’s the rare spawning… causing so many particles like fireworks in the sky if you look up… it’s causing insane frame drop on the entire Zone when it’s gone it’s back to normal
