Forum history wipe

My character is beginning her next chapter and would like the forum post history to be wiped. Can you clear the post history for Sadgati?

That’s not a service they offer. The only time that happens is if a permanent ban on the account takes place or a moderator removes a post that violates the rules.

If you want a fresh start, recreate the character with the same name on a different server, level them up to level 10 and choose them to post with.

Your new character will have their own posting history

Only drawback is the trust level is not account wide. So your new forum toon would have to build up a new trust level again.

I’ve been playing role play characters since 1995 and always cleaned up after my characters upon leaving or making major changes. Old habits die hard. If you want to keep the posts, I have no objections.

Just to clarify, I have no say in how Blizzard’s forums work  I’m a player just like you. I’m just letting you know that they don’t do a post-wipe as you were hoping for.

So do they just put the post in a bag somewhere? Is there a warehouse for this?

In the interest of keeping the thread genuine, no.

The posts just stay there. They just can’t be edited or deleted by the person that made them anymore. Except in one specific instance that I will not put to word for the high possibility it can lead to abuse.

Other Blizzard forums use your Bnet account as your identity on posts. We don’t know if the WoW forum is going to get that update, but if it ever does, it would make the most sense to merge all posting history, regardless of character selection. Just letting you know that a new character might only be a temporary fix.

Oh god. I can just imagine how much sockpuppeting will be revealed in old threads if that change went through.

At one point over a decade ago, our Battle.net handle was used on the forums and it got reversed due to player backlash.

It never got to the point we were ever actually using our battle.net handle on the WoW forums – just the mere announcement of the Real ID system for the forums caused enough backlash that it was never implemented.

(…though I think the backlash was more because a few people were willfully misconstruing the system as using our real life names as our ‘character’, then some website picked that up and ran with it without actually checking if that was the case. Pretty sure the Real ID system for the forums would’ve used our battletag as our identifier, not our real life names…)

No, they had planned to use Real ID (ie, our REAL NAMES) on the forum. That is what was reversed due to backlash. Battletags did not exist at the time, they were created several years after that. I would be totally 100% ok with the forums going to battletag.

Amusingly, that was due to a deal with Facebook at the time. Any such deal with Facebook would be an insta-quit thing for me now regardless of Real ID, as that’s a company that’s not permitted on my network or devices. Thankfully such a deal wouldn’t happen today, as evidenced by Blizzard removing Twitter integration from the game.

That was an announcement of using RealID on the forums, not BattleTags on the forums, and it was never fully implemented, it got as far as an announcement before the decision was canceled due to extreme backlash and doxxing of Blizzard staff.
