Hello,
Are we going to start using btag names or one forum name on all of our avatars. To help eliminate some of the white noise that hinders communication and forum community?
There is no plan for that, in fact very much the opposite. Games like Overwatch and Hearthstone use BattleTags, since that is primarily the identifier in those games. In WoW you are traditionally identified by your character(s). The WoW forums have always functioned this way and we want to continue that functionality.
We’re trying to make some changes that allow quality of life improvements like, being able to have a single trust level for the entire account. And some improvements that will help avoid abuse, like not treating each character as a separate source for reports, likes, etc, which I believe contributes to that noise you referred to.
It’ll take some time, as some functionality isn’t native to the new forums so we’ll have to see what kind of voodoo we can do to get them into a better state. ![]()
I read this as- “continuous improvement of communication is not high on the priority list”. I realize you use other forums and social media but I would hope the official forums would be the go to for the most part. Unless ofc it’s a lot of white noise…
Always functioned that way but not necessarily the best way to do it in regards to solid communication and encouraging a somewhat civil environment imo. Multiple avatars allow trolling unless you go to an extreme outside the CoC. You just roll a “fresh” face and troll like it’s Trollsday. Maybe im just missing out on some fun and being a stick in the mud? Ah well. I tried.
In game you are known by your characters. On the wow forums you are known by which avatar you choose to be in that minute. You would still be known by those same avatars with one added account name across them all. Users would still be able to swap avatars at will. Being known by one name here is the foundation of community. Just like old school servers. Multiple avatars make the forums feel sharded. Lol.
This is a great idea! Love it. This will cover all stats? Posts read, viewed, topics created, love given ect?
Oh very much loving this idea and yes it is. Which brings me to the right click report thread in classic forums. I don’t know if you have read that or if any mods has but there was a whole lot of confusion in that thread about how the system even worked. To be quite honest none of us really had a clue. For thread such as that where the player base is completely uninformed and spreading misinformation wouldn’t it be in the best interests of communication if a k
Blue popped in and said “hello. this is how it currently works”. Not trying to be snarky but that thread got quite ridiculous at points. I feel it did work out that some of our community came together a bit from both sides of the issue but I do feel situations like like should warrant something from a blue. Js. That would go a long way for communication. It’s been improving. Don’t get me wrong and I really appreciate this response and hope I don’t come off as snarky or anything negative. It’s just I’ve dealt with poor communication my entire career and I’m a proponent of good solid communication in everything. Wow. Is a passion. So it applies here and I’d like to be a part of that. Can’t wait for classic.
Sounds awesome even though I disagree about the single forum name across all of our avatars. No biggie though. Let’s get those adjustments out and see what happens to the forum meta. I’ll be here to give ya some feedback. Thanks again for the reply. It’s very much appreciated! Have some love! Oh yea. Love? What’s up can we get the love cap increased? I feel like we should be giving more love around here. That’s an important stat. I think folks horde their love because of the cap. Lol.
Oh do you need some chickens for the voodoo?

I’m sorry if you read it that way, Padrepwn, but that is not what I said. You may see it as an improvement, but not everyone shares your views. The World of Warcraft forums have always allowed players to post as their characters and we felt it important to continue that functionality.
True, but the “best way” isn’t always “the best way for this community”. If you wish you can post your feedback in the appropriate forum. Start a discussion where our developers would be able to review it and we’ll see where that goes.
Well no, you are known by whatever character you are currently logged into at the time. Both in-game and on the forums. I’m not sure what you mean by “old school servers”, you have always been able to post on an individual character on our forums, that functionality hasn’t changed. What we want to change is that each character is viewed as an individual with no shared history/link/trust level.
I haven’t, as I have no involvement with Classic or the Classic forums. Nor would a moderator as the discussion is not a relevant part of their job outside of making sure it adheres to the Code of Conduct.
Please do so in the appropriate forum, Customer Support has no involvement with the development of the forums so any feature change suggestion or feedback you’ll want to post in one of the Community forums, General Discussion by default.
I originally thought this was a single question I could easily answer in the CS Lounge, but it appears not so I’m separating it out and closing it.
