The OP seems really confused about what Battletags are. Battletags don’t link to your char-server unless you select that char-server and use it with the Battletag as an avatar. The Armory does NOT have your info base don Battletag. It is all Char-server.

It is actually a lot more than “just trolls”.
- Trust level, post history, post count, likes/flags, are all tied to the forum account which is currently charname-server. Every time someone transfers or has a name change, it wipes their forum account to the start. Any new char they use, starts at zero. That gets a fair amount of tickets/complaints to CS.
- Treating char-server as forum accounts means Ignore is only for that one char instead of all the chars on that Bnet account. It means people can, and do, make more chars to evade ignores and keep bothering individuals.
- Char-server allows people to add you in-game without your permission, message you, find where you are, mail you, etc. Even see if you get a name change. Btags don’t. They keep anyone from talking to you without you giving them permission to add you as a friend.
- Using multiple characters to abuse the reporting system. Each char has a set of flags, so when someone runs out on one char, they use the other chars to report the same person. Yes, it is against the forum rules and some people do get suspended, but it makes more work for the mods and they don’t catch it all. One Bnet with one set of flags greatly reduces false flagging. Same with a more minor issue of “fake likes”, although that is not really damaging.
- Last, sock puppets and people switching chars to just make trolling threads. Those do cause a lot of disruption and extra mod work. It costs Blizz money to clean it up and it can interfere with attempts at honest discourse.
I don’t care if they do Battletags like all the other Blizzard forums, or a WoW single ID for the forums, it would all be resolved by changing the forum structure back.
Of course, nobody wants chars to go away or transmogs, so using those for the avatar is welcomed. It would just also denote the Btag/forum account name.

I agree this is their house their rules and their rule is there is a limit to what you can say because (we’ll go with since this is the NA forums ) the 1st Amendment ony protects ones free speech from the government.
Private companies and individuals are not subjected to that rule and can limit what a person says in their platforms (which Blizzard does).
Just because Blizzard allows a certain amount of free speech doesn’t mean others players in the forum have to read what a person says and can ignore said person .
As long as Blizz allows you to post and if the only person you were talking to was yourself it still wouldn’t be censorhip because you were still able to voice your opinion .

The forum statistics disagree with you. The best way (as an outsider) to see the number of interactions is to look at the Trust Levels. Trust level 0 would be anyone who ever logged in on a “forum account”. Trust level 3 is people who have been active enough to earn, and KEEP the rolling activity requirements for the forums to earn that.
Now, some of the accounts at TL3 are going to be staff accounts. Some are a handful of MVPs. The vast majority though are people who have met the regular and ongoing activity requirements.
- TL0: 2,358,577 (all “forum accounts” that ever logged in)
- TL1: 926,132 (forum accounts who stuck around on a char long enough to read a few posts and toss out a few likes. Takes about 10 mins)
- TL2: 305,756 (forum accounts who were active over time enough to get TL2. This does not decay off)
- TL3: 238,109 (met the active and ongoing activity levels for the WoW forums)
That last number seems really high to me, honestly. BUT even if the stats are off by a factor of 10, it is not 200 active accounts here. Not even with all the alts people make on their Bnet account (which all start over at 0 trust level).

That is public information Tattypoo. You obtain it by looking at the .json file for your forum profile. It shows you what groups you are part of, and how many others are part of said group. Everyone in TL3 for example, is also in TL0, TL1, and TL2.
Here is the link to your own .json for you profile on this character. You can see the same information.
This would be yours, which has the same info in it. Except of course, you have it hidden so others can’t view it.

These forums are a joke anyway, if they did change it btags I would hope they would at least improve the ignore block functions too otherwise it’s a lose lose situation and I would totally be stepping away.
Yes, that is one of the key reasons people would like it. One forum ID means you block the Bnet account and every character on it, not play whack-a-mole to block each alt they create to pester you.
