i mean, it’s not like they have a choice without valkyr anyway. I mean if we ignore that stupid light-necromancy that respawned Calia
And that book also killed the entire faction and has absolutely nothing in common with how Forsaken were portrayed in quests up to cataclysm (or even legion)
It’s the new forsaken with a conscious. I’d argue Belmont is still old forsaken. I can see him trying to find some way to replenish the numbers for “protection” sake. But only “elite” Forsaken, which the player character can be.
But we’re not going to be reviving sally from the farm anymore.
I actually think they shouldn’t whitewash all old content and shoehorn in “story” that was never part of it in order to align it with later expansions. New players aren’t so stupid as to need an all-encompassing story that unites all zones. They actually can understand that the game is composed of multiple expansions that went different ways and can be enjoyed for what they are.
I get that you want to rewrite all old lore while claiming what came before never existed, so you can pretend it wasn’t a retcon. Sure, a princess who was born as Alliance and raised by an Alliance deity suddenly becomes the leader of a faction whose very name, existence, and solidarity was from the fact that you, as Alliance and their friend and family, have been actively hunting them down as abominations. Let’s get rid of all racial starting zones if the existence of background story of origination is too inconvenient. Too many players are still attached to their characters, and this needs to be broken so, like you, they are glad to trash the characters they have been attached to for decades.
Teldrassil is no longer a thing. Should Night Elves now spawn in Stormwind?
Even assuming the Forsaken do someday get the ability to rez more undead, where are they getting the bodies? Because unless they want another faction war, I doubt the Alliance let them anywhere near any of their corpses.
The Cult of the Damned are mortals that seek immortality in undeath so apparently there are living people that WANT to achieve this. The Forsaken could attract such people and convert them using necromancy. That would be people that WILLINGLY become undead. It could be an excellent solution for mortally afflicted people with a large sin burden to avoid facing judgement in the Shadowlands for a while. Spend that extra time well and they may face better treatment when they have to face judgement.
Lore literally states the Forsaken can not reproduce. When you make a Forsaken character, you aren’t making one in a DF expansion world. You’re making one in a Cata world. When you make that character, Deathwing breaking out of Deepholm and razing the land is the current events even if the narrative pushes you straight to BfA…that’s gameplay and not lore.
For the Forsaken to have a “new” start experience, something major has to change with the lore. Maybe Calia being, essentially, lightforged can be some kind of narrative tie in canonically restoring the Forsaken’s connection to the light and somehow ridding them of the curse and “healing” them…or at least putting them on the road or something.
WoW does a really terrible job of keeping the world up to date. It’s easy to just not know or even forget when you go back to visit an expansion, you’re technically back in time at the end point of that expansion.
What do you think this is? The Metzen run era when they actually cared about continuity?
Psh, we’ve been in the Hazzikostas era for some time now. The Modus Operandi here is to just pretend the game just didn’t exist before the release of the current expansion.
I didn’t say lore, I said continuity. Retconning is still continuity, whether or not you like the change. Just remember, there is no sword in Silithus.
It is/was interesting that before Sylvanas’ character went on the “Path of Eeevvvuuull”
that her main concern was stopping the Forsaken from going extinct. But with her Val’kyr gone she basically doomed them to that fate until Blizz does an update or just keeps the Forsaken starting zone in a permanent time bubble for players.
