Forever disk space?

Do we know how much disk space is required to fit Forever if we’re already a retail player? I’m seeing conflicting answers from a Google search.

We might need to wait until it’s fully deployed before have solid numbers. Even then, it’s subject to change over time.

The storage requirements are listed on the shop page. I don’t know if that is the exact amount though.

The install size for Classic Era is showing as 5.4 GB on my Laptop (Mac), 7.0 GB for TBCA, and 23.7 GB for MoP C.

The 128 GB figure most likely comes from a previous version of Retail, since current Midnight wants 143 GB.

I’d expect Forever to be similar in size to Era or TBC, but I can’t check (yet) since I’m not buying the pre-order.

Yeah it seems to me as if 128 gb is a fresh install of the whole game. I don’t know, we’ll see.

I would expect somewhere in the ballpark of 50GB. The higher res textures and additional sounds/music/graphical effects wouldn’t leave it sub-20.

When I installed it two days ago it downloaded 49GB, noticed now that the folder occupies 379.2 MB, and so am trying reinstalling (which says 12GB), but these are all preload numbers.

I’m curious about what you mean by “if we’re already a retail player” - each variant of the game installs in a separate folder, doesn’t it?

I think, since most things are built off retail, then the installs build off the retail client. I could be wildly wrong, but it seems like that.

That doesn’t sound right to me. For instance, Classic (in its various iterations) are completely different codebases (and assets). Trying to use files/resources from Retail for Classic would be quite strange… and a nightmare to maintain.

Anyhow, I have tried installing each variant separately, and they seem to have consistent sizing (with or without Retail installed).

Not exactly.

Each version has its own application and interface folder, but they all share what they can from the data folder.

Oh, very curious - I see that! I’m curious to know how much actual overlap they have.

That also might explain why the device I installed on that didn’t have Retail installed on it was a roughly 49GB preload?

i.e. if my completely rough estimates are worth anything (and the overlap concept is correct), looks like ~12GB with Retail or ~49GB without? Obviously subject to change, so not sure how much it helps OP.

That’s it! It’s the data folder that holds 125 gigs. That’s what I meant by “already a retail player”.

Mine is 200GB on the PC, but it’s got retail, both retail PTRs, MoP (with HD texture pack), and forever.

Yeah I’ve just got retail lol.
