Forced to use LFG addon?

I don’t like the new lfg addon because it really is just a Dungeon Finder disguised as a chat addon. I don’t wanna be forced to use it so I can find a group. What should I do?

I wasn’t necessarily planning on using any addons. I assume the regular way to find groups is just to type in the various chat channels.

Or, some people said to hang out by the meeting stone? With thousands of people playing in the beginning, I imagine it will be easy to find groups.

We should ostracize anyone using LFG addon. It’s only for noobs

From how Ion was talking there is no way this addon makes it more than a few weeks into live, if at all

Ok, whew. I was worried that it would be in the game.

Link to where Ion said this?

No one can force you to use it if you don’t want to use it.

Think of it this way: You don’t want to use it, and the odds are high that there are a large number of players that also don’t want to use it. So don’t use it. I won’t use it. My wife won’t use it. My kids won’t use it. There’s several more players that aren’t using it.

I won’t dictate how other players should play a game, but that works both ways. I won’t let others dictate to me how I should play my game.

Just seems like an odd point of contention to me.

It wasn’t improved LFG tools that killed server communities and led to the eventual dominance of Casualcraft, it was the allowance of grouping outside those communities with players on entirely different servers that destroyed the previously existing social cohesion.

The only thing that LFG tool will do is make it so that you don’t have to spend an hour as a group lead parked in a capital city spamming trade or sitting in that instance’s zone spamming general.

Like another poster in a different thread on this topic stated, had this actually existed back when we were playing we would’ve dropped to our knees and thanked Nassir for allowing us to witness the radiance of the Cloud District.

Make friends the old fashioned way…
/wave
Trade food or clothing you don’t need.
Apply buffs to unsuspecting strangers.
Help strangers that pull too many Murlocs.
Steal the chest while they kill the guarding mobs.
Strike up conversation while fishing.
Flirt with everyone while chilling in the Goldshire Inn.

Ya know… old fashioned way. You got his. :+1:

A few weeks into live is all it needs.

It literally is a chat addon. It’s not disguised as anything. There is no automation at all, which is what Ion was talking about. It’s a chat parsing tool.

If the addon was redesigned with no UI and using the same search logic to just filter out any chat that didnt have the key phrases, it would be performing the EXACT same task and people wouldn’t be complaining at all. It’s literally just a chat filter addon with a GUI.

I saw a clip (sorry i honestly dont have it) but it seems automated. You can set your variables and it auto invites based on key words.

There are auto invite addons completely separate of that. They invite when you send a certain key phrase to a user. Used in conjunction with this addon, sure, inviting skips the “inv me” step of the grouping process, but I don’t think you can argue that is stripping anything valuable from the socialization aspect of the game.

The LFG addon does nothing players can’t already do.

It won’t change the game.

If you don’t want to use it, don’t! I won’t ever use the addon, and have zero care if others do.

People who say these community breaking features won’t ruin the game…why play classic? You have all the content of classic in retail? Is it because retail’s world is empty?

I mean I think there is an argument to be made, and not saying by me. But even hearing that the devs talked about it being a factor in how the current game is run and how it has continued to eliminate interaction between players.

In a situation where the interaction is only “invite me” theres literally nothing being removed but one character right clicking their name and hitting invite.

I mean its not going to keep me from playing. And i already got a group of guys i play with but i do think something like this will impact social aspects. By how much, we wont know until ppl are using it on a day to day.
