That’s actually very nice to know. It’s getting a bit annoying for me to spend 2-3 mins on the ground just waiting for my vigor to regenerate. Thanks!
The idea of people using flight paths after fully unlocking the dragon talent tree is crazy to me. It’s way faster than regular flying and easy with everything unlocked. People take the easiest path.
You can literally go around and get them as soon as you unlock dragon flying. Myself and a friend did exactly that (also got most of the flight paths but some I missed but it won’t matter). Even if someone is scared and doesn’t want to go to the last zone, there are still enough to get the more than good enough abilities giving significant quality of life advantages.
I get why people don’t like it, it’s a bit tough to get used to, but with a bit of practise and dedication, you’ll be flying high in no time!!!
One piece of advice I have for anyone not great at it, don’t just use skyward ascent while pointing down or forward, you’ll lose speed. Rather, pitch up slightly while using it and you will gain speed, which means more vigor, which means more flying time!!!
It’s about flying from X to Y but, for the umpteenth millionth time, having to actually steer and flap and glide instead of hitting space bar and auto run while aimed in the general direction.
Dragon flying is absolutely faster but is going to require constant paying attention and a modicum of effort that I believe many are going to opt to lose the little bit of time to take the tedium out of the equation until we get normal flying back.
After maxing it out last night, it’s pretty easy and extremely fast. Can cross the entire continent and then fly up a mountain without landing once.
I liked it once i got glyphs
I mean its not better than reg flying… but its not bad i guess
I can definitely see that people won’t be able to just autorun and step away from their PC, so the flight path still serves that purpose. But for anyone who’s at their PC and just feeling lazy, it’s as simple as using all your vigor to flap as high as you can go, then AFK gliding down to your destination. Particularly having your hearth set at the main city you can reach basically anywhere on the continent just by a simple flight upwards then easy glide to it.
So clarification needed - THIS is how flying will be in this expansion? No ability to use the god-awful number of mounts I have acquired over 18yrs?
You must not have understood his post. He wasnt saying dragon riding was difficult. He said he was mad at the players who think its bad.
I do have a question for all of you more knowledgeable folks out there. Can we use any of our other flying mounts we have collected for almost 20 yrs in the new zones?
I think there were people who like flying for the convenience/efficiency, and there are people who like flying because they like flying. The former probably won’t love Dragon Riding, the latter probably will.
Personally, I love it. I was asking them to add flight physics to flying mounts back when Wrath was in development; they told me, “we’re not making a flight sim.” I’m very pleased they finally came around.
Looks that way kinda salty i cant use my old mounts for it… but guess that would be too much burden on the art department to re design all thoes mounts to move differently.
They said before that regular flying will come to the isles similar to how they been doing it since Legion. I’d expect the 1st content patch with a new zone will unlock regular flying in the current zones and either never or later flying for that new zone like ZM did it.
I mean…I spent all night consoling my Onyxia mount to fly in dragon isles…Guess it’s Ol Yeller time.
so that im understand fly upward pitch up and you will go further…ok I will try that…and get all the glyphs…got it … im having fun just doing all the side quests and profession(leatherworlking /skinning) im at almost lvl 63… and im still in the waking shores… having so much fun …dont really want flying …plenty of flight points I dont want to miss anything by flying over it . but eveutally I will get there maybe end game… for the outdoor events
Yes you’re preaching to the choir here. I myself fall into all the worlds. There are times I absolutely will just take the vendor flight path because I’m going to use that time to go to the bathroom and get more water and stuff. There will also be times I would rather just take the speed loss while I finish watching a video or reading something online. When regular flying is unlocked, doing the normal mount up, space bar up, and auto run will certainly enter the mix and if speed in completing chores is a concern, of course I’ll just be zipping along.
Even my brief stint on beta had me largely bored of dragon riding after just a few weeks. The novelty wears off quick and I’m just wishing I could auto run and tab out until I hear the voices talk or whatever other signal.
But I also drive an automatic transmission car too. Even if I know how to drive a manual, I’m not into wanting to pay constant and nonstop attention to shifting while I drive. I’ll suffer the loss of “feels cool” moments in doing those shifts to just have it completely out of mind and let the car do the work.
But… you can literally fly forever right now…
I don’t get it.
It’s a bit unfortunate that the system had to be introduced after regular flying, because I can understand how it feels like a downgrade. People understandably don’t want to give up a convenience they’ve had for years, the ability to set themselves on a linear path and fly without having to worry about it.
I personally feel like making tough decisions like that is what blizzard is going to have to do to breathe some life in to the game long term. Old flying ruined a lot of things about world design I think and a system like dragon riding could make the world and the terrain feel like it matters again.
