You “made” me login to retail to venture down to the gates to check. I guess you’re right. I can’t find the gem in the ground anymore. Used to be you could click on it to see most of what happened when the gates were opened the first time, it just wouldn’t trigger the other World Event stuff. But you could at least witness the lore stuff. Ah well, so goes life.
I am sorry if you took it as me insulting you. I was insulting the point not you. I do not think of you that way.
I’m not quite convinced of this.
I could easily be wrong, but I just don’t see it really being a thing for Classic. Classic thrives entirely on community and the idea of being in an active world. Current WoW itself feeds this “quiet server” appeal very easily. I just don’t think it was enough of a thing especially to be included in this manner.
It also feeds into the mental idea that Classic isn’t going to be doing well.
Also to state.
Making the point as you have now, with the server transfers and people wanting low pop realms, is a stronger argument than the one made previously. It argues for the same thing but with stronger backing.
Again I want to state I was calling the argument stupid as a point of how much it disregarded Classic. I meant nothing against you and want to apologize for it being stated in a way that might be taken against yourself.
It baffles me that you’re so closed-minded that you can’t even fathom that I can agree with that sentiment while also being more open to the idea of sharding wherever/whenever it’s mechanically needed than yourself.
I’m open minded about sharding in classic too. that’s why you don’t see me fighting for it’s removal from launch.
but it ENDS there.
you know what would happen if sharding was put more permanently in classic?
you’d see people flooding high end zones, spawning extra shards and boom - those rare resources? not rare anymore.
Why would anyone sane want to do that? No matter how much hardware they throw at it, there is an upper limit on just how large the player pool can get in regards to World PvP. So there almost has to be an upper limit on World PvP without regard to sharding being an “accepted” option or not. At that point Sharding allows the PvP to happen without it becoming an unplayable mess.
You started playing 2011 and you know how great sharding is???
Please tell use the ppl that played vanilla/how classic should be?
No we want to play the game. I fear if sharding is in the game that will be used beyond 2 week launch. It’s better to sit in a Q than have sharding at random time when world events take place by players.
Events happened all the time in Vanilla and don’t want to miss it in classic. That is a major thing/selling point for classic. Community
Blizzard even stated understanding the concept of rare resources being an issue with sharding as well as world bosses. . . I don’t think it is fearmongering.
Think of it this way. You have 4 dog treats and 20 dogs. You place the treats in a small area in a yard. All 20 dogs will want them. Thus all 20 will go into that area. But say that area shards when capped at 8. You will then have 3 shards. Thus there will be 12 treats. The dogs didn’t need to be smart, they just wanted to get that rare item.
i’d rather have it be a mess then have sharding around for 1.
and for 2, way to cherry pick 1 out of like 6 things to zero in on.
what about the - player interactions
economy
rarity of resources
community development
Thank you @Melaned - I really appreciate that reply.
I also hope what you say is true, that it will go the way Blizzard is promising - tourists will move on and sharing will be removed “after a few weeks” for the “initial launch.”
Here’s an analogy. To me, Blizzard’s promise to remove sharding is sort of like saying there’s this new highway we just restored called Highway 66. Not many people will want to travel on it out West beyond a few weeks, because once the curiosity wears off, they will go back to the Interstate.
Maybe or maybe not, right? Maybe more people will like driving on an old new Highway 66 than you think? Maybe driving on the crowded Interstate 80 at 90 mph isn’t everyone’s idea of getting from one point to another and more people will enjoy a more scenic road, where you can stop and have lunch and talk to other travelers.
Then, you have to keep sharding in to manage the new “traffic” that you have on your restored “highway 66” because it worked at lunch and we still need it to keep things running for the future. That really worries me because sharding is such a social community poison that (along with other modern conveniences) also helped destroy my neighborhood realm on Eonar.
