Yes, it would. Full stop.
NO it wouldn’t .
If you didn’t have what ever you chosen covenants ability is would it honestly take away from you being a part of that covenant.
Yes. Its part of the appeal. You commit to them, they reward you.
Fine now would it take away from your rp appeal if you chose not to switch abilities and stick with your covenants set ability if I was able to switch abilities?
I mean no one is saying you would have to change and if you chose just for the rp aspect then the ability really doesn’t mean as much to you . Other then it is a rp aspect they gave to you .
In other words other people being able to switch abilities would not affect the rp aspect of it for you , because you could just choose to stick with your covenants ability and not switch .
I’m guessing you took the covenant you like even if it has the worst ability for the content you do ?
Yes

How would my being able to switch affect your ability to rp ?
You made a purely rp choice so you apparently don’t care about the game play aspect as much . Because if you did you would of gone necro .
Im of mind that – you shouldnt be able to swap covenants REGARDLESS. Id rather it be a permanent decision and view what it currently is as a major walkback to make it more friendly to the crowds who swap for content base.
Because that isn’t how the game works. People don’t have individual rules.
Why should something that lasts for only an expansion be a permanent decision ?
Will we still be a part of the covenants when we leave the Shadowlands? Will we still have the abilities we get from them when the next pre patch launches ? Will Shadowlands be anything more then the new leveling zone for new players once it replaces BfA in 10.0 ?
Right, just like you can’t take that warlock and decide to change its class one day but keep all the progression, cosmetics etc you earned on that character, you need another one. RPGs are about tradeoffs, and covenants happen to be one of them. It’s likely that some form of ripcord pull will happen at the end of the expansion, but until then, choices have consequences.
Because its only relevant to the expansion – we have no entire belief that these things will carry on past this expansion.
I think for the flavor of the expansion, it should have been a perma choice.
Bro, thats all Legion and BFA are now. Like – thats all ANY old content is now. Can people honestly stop pretending that anything in the expansion matters after its current?
I know it doesn’t matter after it is current . But could you honestly say the covenants would not want us to have all their abilities at our disposal to stop the forces of the Jailer ?
Did we not defend all of their lands ? Did we not help to expose the traitors in their mists ?
Are we not looked upon by them all as the champion of the Shadowlands?
Bro – I had to become friends with Broken on Argus to somehow unlock traitor Blood Elves as a race. Are we really going to question how Blizzard handles story and game mechanics?
On top of that – when ARs were still had their rep requirements, you could have saved Kul’Tiras 20 times over and still couldnt unlock them as a supposed ally race until you met the rep level.
Yes. This is normal behavior. Nations, even close allies, rarely share all their resources even in times of war against a common foe. Not to say it has never happened, but history tells us that trust typically only extends just so far.
Didnt even in the story for Shadowlands have basically all the different covenants start off by not trusting each other? Along with people pointing figures at Maldraxxus for being traitors?
That doesn’t mean you will be able to freely swap. They just mean class flavor is going to be more apparent in a spec, rather than a “class” simply being 2-4 playable characters that have completely different flavor bundled into one class. I feel like them saying they’re focusing on class means they’re going to focus MORE on “spec locking”, because it means that you feel like a Warlock as an Affliction Warlock for instance, and don’t feel obligated to swap specs to experience more of the class flavor.
Covenants acting as a locking mechanism seems an extension of this mantra. Covenant abilities are class-wide, but may encourage you to double-down on your spec. So you are a Warlock, but you’re also an Affliction Warlock.
Lol, yeah, the idea of owning a thread is a bit comical.
Why not?
There is no fundamental reason it must be one way or another.
The amount of “POST HIDDEN” followed by “POST RESTORED” notifications I’m getting is hilarious.
It’s literally against the forum rules to be off topic derailing threads so there’s nothing comical about asking him to stay on topic.
Stop cheerleading.
Hey OP! Have you considered quitting the game? It doesn’t seem like it’s for you.
