Thank you but the first post is nothing special. The game has some obvious FOMO-issues but it is needed and a good thing to have.

But several rewards behind FOMO are the problem.

i dont see anything wrong with fomo that isn’t limited time

like “drop rates get nerfed” is fine imo as long as theres always a way to obtain something even if it becomes harder to do so

is that your thoughts too or do you mean permanent removal is good too

I’ll never advocate for mounts to be locked to a cash shop, but I have to play a little devil’s advocate on the other point. There’s not a single flying heritage mount (the few we have, and I’ll count the mounts unique to each allied race because why not).

We’ve seen this before, and I’ll put use the Arcanist’s Manasaber as an example. It’s 100% a Nightborne mount, and more decorated than their actual, need-to-get-the-race-to-own mount. It’s also a mount that anyone can get by doing the Suramar campaign.

They’ve also been throwing neutralized racial mounts into loot tables since Vanilla (Rivendare’s Charger, White Hawkstrider, Sabers, etc). So, while it’s something that should not be tied to the cash shop, it’s not the first heavily racially themed mount to be open access and it will not be the last.

i think cash shop is fine so long as people always have a way to buy cash shop items with gold which they can already do

Permanent removed items make only sense when it is not a lore-based representation. The dreadful and sinister pvp tabards and cloaks come to the mind. Based on the factions (human/orc/nelf/forsaken) which should not have been removed because these races got no actual tabard update since Cataclysm. If it would have been some other random tabard, then it would be perfectly fine to be a FOMO-item.

The game lacks race and class fantasy items, either because they haven’t been updated or are not available.

I think it’s fine as long as you can acquire it from the shop. Better than not being available to the player base. The racial flying Mag’har Orc mount is also a cash shop item and nobody has a problem with it.

No one is asking for free hand outs.

People wants to earn the stuff. Whether it’s a return of an old dungeon scaled up or another challenge.

Blizzard has made a statement saying the appearances won’t be returning. I’d rather move on and enjoy the game.

In the good 9 years I play the game I have heard several of these statements and they always went back on it. In the end, the customer has the power and if enough people rally together, they have to go back on these ideas.

Personally I don’t see why it’s there at all. I don’t like the idea of everything becoming like the Bronze/Black/Twilight drakes, but with scaling we honestly should be above that.

I personally feel FOMO is destined to end with apathy, Mounts I’d like to go get would be S1/2 KSM mounts. At the time I had to decide they weren’t worth dealing with beta testing Shadowland’s systems. From personal experience after you make the decision to not care about one of those whether it be for in-game or IRL reasons, It’s super easy to brush off collecting in general.

There is also the fact that a lot of new players probably ask themselves, “Is it too late to start this nearly 20 year old game?”. Which, they’re intentionally adding something that adds to the “Yes, it is in fact too late to start playing WoW.” notion.

I’d rather then focus on the game and making new sets.

As someone that has a rare title that can’t be earned anymore I’m ok with restricting things.

If you weren’t here that’s unfortunate but paying a fee doesn’t mean you’re entitled to everything.

Also you still aren’t using FOMO correctly.

I don’t like trying to use new players has a talking point against having limited time items. Most new players have played other games and those games have plenty of limited time items. Having limited time items/ events in games do not damage the game but give an incentive to try different things.

What does hurt the game is an over abundance of limited time things, removing quest chains, lore points, or making things last minute limited time. I will always say that old dungeons should have been moved to the Caverns of Time. There was no reason to remove Battle for the Undercity or MoP quest chain. In fact given the system they have now they can let people toggle between the pre- Cata world and current.

I never played SMITE because I came too late for the Avatar skins. This was the only reason for me to try it out. Imagine someone finds a cool wow fantasy set on google because they looked for something similar and get actually interested in playing the game, only to find later out that it is not available to them.

It’s not a good game design in general. Final Fantasy 14 solved this problem way better and it contributes to longevity of the servers.

Part of the reason I took to using new players as a point, is my experience in FFXIV. One of the things that helped it take priority over WoW with a lot of my time is the ability to look around, see people using cool mounts or pets. Then setting those as long term goals that I now have in the game.

Something I could see new players running into as roadblocks. Since 14 uses FOMO sparingly, while WoW embraces it and effectively goes wild with it.

There was also an encounter I had just after a BC timewalking event, where some new players were fawning over my Violet Spellwing. Which, personally I have no connection to other than It’s a thematically nice mount for a mage. That spurred on that stance as well.

Should really stop pretending everything in WoW is Fomo

I want more seasonal incentives. It’s fun to have exclusive rewards for playing content when it’s current.

What the hell is FOMO?

FOMO the latest in tired misused forum buzzwords. Some people’s obsession with not being able to collect all the pixels can’t be healthy.

How could you ever possibly have found this information on your own

There’s nothing elitist about having something because you played when it was available.

What Blizz needs to do is make sure there’s always new cool stuff to get in current content.
