FOMO Events turn me off from playing - Kalimdor Cup

Approx 3 hours over the course of 90 days to complete the Kalimdor Cup.

Approx 15 minutes for Trial of Style - mileage varies based on desired outcome(s).

Like what? Voluntary mount farming per week on reset? Those are choices, it’s not “FOMO”.

Yes, the show continues even if you change the channel. If you want to watch the full program, you must watch the commercials too.

Then don’t. These are all choices. You could decide right now that the only thing you want to do in WoW is walk around counting blades of grass in Goldshire. That’s your choice, and you’re free to make it. Nobody is forcing you into anything.

If you don’t want to participate in them, don’t. If you want the rewards from them, it requires your participation.

That’s how life works.

Blizzard in a rare moment of being completely reasonable:

Makes casual content for people that just want to do something for fun thats clearly a disguised test for dragonriding in the old world. Also, you have 2 weeks and dont need to sit in a queue or group for anything at all. Also also, dragonriding races take like 1.5min each, we’re not asking you to commit 40 hours to this.

Some people in this thread:

This is unacceptable!

Seriously, its just a fun event for tmog thats ultimately a few hours of content at most, and you have 2 weeks to do it. This is like saying Hallow’s End or Winter Veil is FOMO or bad design because its not year round.

Hey buddy with 2 posts,

It’s lame they are treating it as a holiday. It’s a dragon race. Should be available at anytime at least during Dragonflight.

Yet another person who doesn’t know what FOMO is. Same problem on Reddit smh.

I agree with you but in this case they ARE coming back so dont worry and who knows they might even have tweaked ungoro and the harder ones abit for the second round but i feel you completly i hate this “complete this now or get that thing now or else” mentality

Anything anyone doesn’t like about the game is simply “Fomo” it’s really sad people can’t use the term correctly.

I mean… 13 days isn’t exactly what I’d call a very long time. With other things to do ingame and considering that most people probably don’t have time to play everyday for long hours, I can see how it stresses one out a bit.

I wasn’t able to play everyday during the time of the event because of a family visit and when I was playing, I also had other stuff to do. So it wasn’t really fun to sit down for a while and go through all the races with the thought in mind “You have to do this now, In a few days it’s gone”. And now I did it with one character and see that I’m not even close to the number of coins I still need. It’s really demotivating.

It’s not being treated like a holiday.
It’s being treated like an event.
Like F1 racing, or tour de france.

It would lose its appeal if it was constant.

Yeah let’s make it available for 1 weekend day every weekend but only part of the year and sometimes there’s a weekend off and also there’s a long winter break and also a short summer break. But never on Monday- Thursday.

Qualifying doesn’t count. And no sprints.

starting to sound almost like the fishing extravaganza.

omg… fishing extravaganze is a FOMO event!!!

I can’t stand the fact that people pretend like Fomo is anything more than a buzzword used as a scapegoat instead of people admitting they have some underlying issues.

I miss out on tons of stuff. Heck I’ve sat out whole expansions and didn’t feel like I missed a thing. Actually that’s not true I missed out on the violet spellwing. But that’s not fomo that’s just straight up jealousy at the fact that i now have to wait til it’s on the trading post or a twitch drop lol.

Eh. It’s a little bit FOMO since it’s a limited time event but only in a minor way since the event is supposed to come back…every year? Idk what it’s frequency is meant to be. So theoretically it’s no different to e.g. noble garden. But it’s certainly not like the true FOMO events blizz has done many times in the past like the prepatch events or anniversary events etc.

It’s a new yearly holiday. I don’t see the problem?

It’s not fomo if it’s just a rotating event, though. Just do it later.

This is the actual /thread.
Some stuff is only valuable if it’s rare.

It’s an annual event so it’ll return.
Seriously, complaining that the game doesn’t tailor to you specifically is kinda lame.
Basically, the reason they don’t allow everything to happen all at once is because the game would turn into an absolute mess of events that dilute any interest in any part of the game.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!

… don’t read too much into this beyond just that this complete misunderstanding of FOMO-crap has gotten quite badly on my nerves with how folks just throw it out there completely misusing it, so I just wanted to say thank you all for at least trying to explain to people that it isn’t

(I’m not going to explain why it affects me this badly, I am going to shut off my computer and go to bed instead - seems a whole lot more healthy and reasonable to do right now but still, thank ya’ll for being reasonable)

Yeah, I don’t get a FOMO feeling from it. My issue is that it’s going to be drip fed. I’d rather have full old world Dragonriding with cups and rewards coming later, or all of it at once way later, than these little crumbs now. This honestly feels like nothing.
