FOMO Events turn me off from playing - Kalimdor Cup

As a person who isn’t the biggest fan of Dragonriding, I would just casually do a race here and there. Having this be an “event”, with who knows how long until it comes back - just turned me off completely from doing it at all. Why an event? Why a limited time?

The game should let people login, play, do things at their own pace. So tired of the FOMO in this game. The “Do X or miss out or have to wait a long time for it to happen again” feeling.

Huge reason why I have basically quit playing at all. I can’t stand the FOMO. Most times I login, realize I am not in the mood to do any of these “limited time” things, and logout.

I’d login more if I could just login, and jump into whatever I am in the mood for. But when you take things things away for no reason, you remove reasons to login.

For the cups, they’re going to rotate back around.

Please find a better term than one that gives “consult a psychiatrist” in the first few Google searches.

So you have weeks to log in and do the cup at your own pace…but you don’t because it’s not going to be available permanently, even though you know it’s coming back again in the future.

Seems silly to me, but you do you.

FOMO means fear of missing out

Didn’t read what I wrote

wow is made to be a living moving changing game if you don’t like it tough. Play stardew valley or something that goes at your pace

It would be like playing animal crossing and saying you don’t like that you miss out on a day if you don’t play a day. Too bad that’s the main mechanic of animal crossing just like the main mechanic of WoW is that it’s always changing

It’s literally the reason we pay for subscription is to have the game be updated with new changes

I completely disagree with you.

Oh i did misread my bad.

I’m on my phone and the sun is hitting it so little harder to read than normal. My goof.

Aw muffin. You going to be alright?

Do you get this upset because the local fair only comes around once a year too?

This is so trivial.

nothing is being taken away.

this “FOMO” fad has run its course.

it’s time to find a new catch-phrase, and new stuff to be outraged about.

do it, don’t do it.
it’s entirely your choice.

nothing bad will happen if you don’t do it.
it’s only a few cosmetics, and not even attractive ones.

As a player who occasionally logins to run an old raid or two for tmog chances, I like cosmetics.

The biggest issue is by not having things available at all times, there’s less things to actually do when you do login and want to sit down and casually work on a tmog set.

I’ve logged in 3 times since the cup started, not one of these times have I wanted to actually do the event though. But having these things up at all times is better then removing them just so there’s most stuff to do when you’re feeling in the mood.

This is not a FOMO event, or situation. I understand the buzz-word usage in attempts of outrage, but it’s not “FOMO”.

It’s a limited time rotating availability mechanic - just like Timewalking, or anything else.

This is not FOMO. You are not experiencing FOMO.

How often though? Because we have events like Trial of Style that are very very rare (twice a year) that it feels bad if you miss it because of a long wait time.

Timewalking is another that I think we should have 1 up every week rotating, because it takes soooooooo long to get to a specific one you might want.

I want more things available at a time, not less. I only level alts in Timewalking for example, so the less it’s up the less I care to login.

Less things available = less I care to play this game

Wow that is extremely lame, why can’t they just keep it in-game forever? lol makes no sense. I was going to log in and do it eventually but if I am rushed to do anything in this game I just don’t do it anymore.

Yeah I agree and didn’t even know this was an time sensitive event. I haven’t logged into retail for a hot minute. I’m over it.

That’s your choice, your prerogative, and your desires as an individual. You are free to want those things for you.

My point is: This isn’t “FOMO”. You aren’t experiencing the fear of missing out from participating in these things. If you were, you would be scrambling to participate in them.

FOMO would be prioritizing logging in/getting it done ASAP because you’re afraid you might miss out if you don’t. Fear would be causing you to shift your priorities into participating in them.

It’s an argument of instant gratification with permanently available dopamine on your schedule, when you want it, and only how you want it - versus a live world developing and things for people to participate in. The “World” part of Warcraft doesn’t stop just because you hit exit game.

That was how I was playing this game until 2 months ago. The old me would have been like that over this Kalimdor Cup too, had I not decided that I was fed up of playing that way, and basically quit the game. Now when I login, I just think about how disgusting much I would play WoW to not miss out, how often I did things that were not fun at all, and felt like “chores” that I felt like I HAD to do to not miss out. And now they’ve pushed me to just quit. Because the game had far far far too many things that encouraged you to play in a way that felt you “had” to do stuff or miss out, and all the fun got sucked out of the game. I was so burnt out, that unless this game changes, I just can’t do it anymore.

fomo is a player problem not a blizz problem. and it seems wow is the only game where this player problem is prevalent

i dont see people whining on other games with limited time things

I never understood FOMO. I skip so much stuff. if I don’t want to do it, I don’t. I’ve stopped in my tracks so many quest chains if they require dungeons. I will NEVER do dungeons unless it’s for loremaster or professions.

I’m giving up on alchemy since it requires entering a dungeon over and over to fill it out.

Never understood FOMO

Agree wholeheartedly, a lot of the direction WoW has taken has solidified my stance on how the higher ups suck, Ion is a yes man, and this game is going down the drain.
