Flying trivializes the majority of the content so it makes sense to award flying after the content you will be flying over has aged.
We will still be questing in Zandalar and Kul Tiras in 8.1 so it would be too early for flying.
Besides what is the point of having hills, mountains, and bodies of water if you can fly from day 1?
I have 3 120s horde side and 2 120s alliance side. If anyone has been playing the game we've been done with this content for a month or more. How many times do you have to run to the same WQs before it gets boring. More than 5 is plenty.
We should already be flying by now.

This too.
Even if Blizzard could keep up, it would then be too much content if they had to keep up with flying from day 1. Too much content can be bad as well because playing the game would feel like a full time job.
Pathfinder IMO has been a perfect solution.
There is a way around it by having a lot of flying mobs which can dismount you all over the place .
I wonder why Blizzard has never gone that route , give ppl flying and slow them in the air with flying mobs.
Then what's the point of flying?

It would still be easier than finding a path around a mountain or finding paths in general .

Probably because doing so would equal a death in a lot of cases if you were flying high up. And they would need to scatter the skies with mobs at all different levels or you would just fly above the mobs.
Dismounting is already insanely annoying, having it where you would die when it happens would be by far the dumbest thing they could do.

Exactly that would defeat the purpose.
The thing is that even though I feel for players like you that have already been through the content so many times, there is no way to award you flying without ruining it for everybody else.
The advantage players such as yourself would have over the other would be so enormous, that doing whatever you accomplished to earn flying would become mandatory by default.
Which would mean everybody would be flying in 8.0 and we would be back at square 1, trivialized questing and geography.
Also, even though you have done the content ad nauseum, there is still alot of content you have not done on Zandalar and Kul Tiras which will be released on 8.1 and beyond.

If you're constantly being slowed or dazed to your death then no it wouldn't be faster at all.

What advantage would I have? Nodes are multi-tap now and I don't do any wpvp so where's my huge game breaking advantage? Once pathfinder part one is done that should be it. Done flying awarded. That way people will have to do all the content at least once before they can fly.
The only reason it's being held hostage is because of dev spite.

What advantage would I have?
You would be able to complete all WQ, current and future content in the fraction of the time.
Wear Monel-Hardened Stirrups and now you can interact with every quest object while on your flying mount, it would be absolutely ridiculous.

Besides, by the the time flying is released the new content will likely be "no fly" anyways.
Such blatant disregard for customer satisfaction and experience would never 'fly' in
the real workplace world. And the hubris demonstrated by developers who seem to not care in the least what their community thinks astounds me.
It's a "commitement" except that it isn't. They regret letting us fly but they can't just take it out without causing massive uproar.
So what they do? They say "Oh we reached a middle ground! The player have to have an achievement to fly!"
Only...they will only let us fly once we don't even need the area we can fly anymore cause everything that's new is on the new area where we can't fly.
Wich means, we will be able to fly around Zandalar and Kul Tiras...but only when the next area is ready and we won't even set foot on Zandalar / Kul Tiras anymore.
It's another classic case of Blizzard making a fool out of it's players.

If Blizzard wants no-flying zones because players would otherwise ignore all the scenery... perhaps... perhaps it is a problem of the zones themselves.
I think there's a reverse causation fallacy here.
Players never got fond of a zone, so they fly through it... but in Blizzard they seem to think that because players fly, they can never get fond of a zone.
And besides, you can still enjoy a zone while flying.

Whether there is flying or not, people will blaze thru bfa's content or lack of thereof.

It is about much more than enjoying the scenery.
Imagine if you could fly on Argus from day 1.
All those quests events that triggered when you accessed certain terrain would be impossible, the entire experience would have been tremendously boring and the only way to make Argus viable at all would have been to make it 5 times larger, otherwise it would be too fast and too easy.
The size of the much larger Argus, designed with flying in mind, would then be torture to every other player that does not have flying.
People need to actually think about what they are saying rather than parroting what they hear.

Then flying should be available when you hit max level. It worked for 4 expansions then all of a sudden became a huge problem. Why? I'm not asking you specifically but why did flying become a huge problem after 8 years of being fine?
It'll be a great day when the current devs move on from wow.

Give flying to everybody on expansion release without a mechanism to earn it, now it is no longer special.
That is 1 less thing for you to look forward too and work towards.
The only reason you enjoy it and think it is cool is because of the time and work it takes to earn it and because of the content shortcuts it provides.
Both of which are reasons to not award flying early in an expansion.

Wouldn't be as boring compared to when you can't fly past annoying terrain.
And about those obstacles in Argus... as simple as adding an invisible wall.

You didn't have to work for it in TBC, Wrath, Cata or even MoP and they were very well-received.

I rather enjoy it the way it is and I enjoy that when I land in towns in the world, I still often see people running around. The game typically becomes more dull once flying is released since the world feels more lifeless. <shrugs> differing opinions is why i'm sure they tried to find a middle ground between your desire for flying now and people like me who would prefer flying to only be a thing after the xpac ends.
I don't run around advocating as if I speak for everyone and how terrible customer service ... w/e. I simply enjoy what is available instead of being angry I didn't get my way (hence why I don't make QQ you added flying i'm quitting and or angry threads)
I enjoy not flying until the X.2 of the patch like in Legion, I get to explore the world it seems larger
me too
i love flying to my 437th azerite quest tucked waaaay up into Stormsong Valley's southeast corner on my 4th 120.
it's incredibly immersive and the world feels so huge and beautiful
just thinking about that experience brings me such joy
wonder what my 438th wq up there will feel like..?

Absolutely false. I've loved flying every since I first took off in BC. Those are your opinions and do not reflect the views of everyone.

To answer the title question:
Short answer: Because Blizzard said so.
Long answer: Because we're not the developers, and Blizzard said so.

They could give players arial combat abilities so that you are not a sitting duck in the air against flying mobs.
