I was just adding that to the list of options. So many times in the past we have seen “the choices that devs can make” as though they are limited to options proposed by the most anti-flight forumgoers, like the many who have proposed that if flight went back to a pay-per-character basis, devs would have no choice but to charge millions of gold.
They can do what they want to. They can concoct pathfinder requirements that are so punitive that even more players will say “Enough! I’m out of here!”, and only a much smaller core of obedience would remain. Or they could just remove restrictions and use flight as a selling point to get back some of the many players who left after reaching their bs limit.
Devs have infinite options. They chose one of the more expensive ones, that will require them to develop the game to be fully playable on the ground and in the air, so that players can play while trapped on the ground and also fly later.

Just like playing in old content is an option if you want to play in content with flight.
Having come back to the game for BfA after skipping those two expansions and then doing the path finders…
This should have been done long ago. Those were both horribly un-fun experiences. The Tanaan grind when everything in the area is on long timers and can be one shot be everyone…
And really BfA Path finder needs to go as well. Saw pretty decent influx of classic refugees come into retail and fumble around a bit and pathfinder is a major downer of a grind at this point.
What ever the business objectives are for this system, and they are obviously designed to be a mid expansion re-sub event with just enough grind to require at least two months of sub time, the carrot of pushing hard to achieve flying because no one else has it yet is long gone.
In fact the shear horribleness of these systems is really laid bare when the content you grind on is no longer relevant.

Indeed, and people asked for and received better option.
I’m not entirely opposed to the Pathfinder system, but it needs to be a lot simpler and easier and come a lot earlier in the expansion. X.1 patch preferably. I’d prefer to remove all rep from it as well or at least drop it to Honored. Especially if you are going to have slow reps like the Turtles or zones obviously designed to be navigated with flight like Nazjatar that you have to complete before you get flying.

They tried to make PF and gear vendors a 2nd patch retention mechanic for the mid to backend of expansions but it hasn’t worked out the last few expansions.
This is why shadowlands is creeping towards changes to vendor and PF systems. Time will tell how significant those changes will end up being.

Good deal. Thanks for the change.
This is another example of Blizzard changing their minds after saying “no” to something. Never lose faith in suggesting things!

Honestly I’m an altoholic and I’d play a lot more the first half of the expansion if I could fly earlier. After I level my second or third alt through the same zone I just don’t want to do it again without flying.

The OP is definitely light on what they plan to do with flying in Shadowlands.
We’ve yet to see what “Surprise Retention Mechanics” they have planned for us.
What new rewards ? if you already did them you got the rewards already .
I’ve had my Sky Terror since Draenor and my Broken Isle speed boost since Legion .

And I can picture the devs talking over the water cooler and saying just this about every one of the millions of players who have left since flight restriction began.
Did I say “millions”? I meant “many millions”.

remember in WoD when they planned for a 24 7 pvp area set out in the mainland of Draenor that would be a constant battle that wasnt Ashran iwould be like Halaa from BC but larger an entire quest hub capital for both factions as well as an ogre empire content and the Shattrath raid
and look what happened we ended up with the SELFIE camera toy

It didn’t in WoD but it was unpopular though and lots of people didn’t want it carried over so it did have a factor in subs going forward .
Especially when they added a part 2 and the time gap between parts 1 and 2.

Flying is optional. You can do all the content without flying. However flying is fun for so many people and that’s why you see such a big push for flying.
Don’t like flying? Don’t fly.

sadly that’s not good enough for most of those that prefer the ground they don’t like flight so by extension were not supposed to enjoy it either

It’s the most selfish thing I’ve ever seen posted on the forums. They can’t have fun unless everybody has fun their way.

I have suggested each part gets it’s own lore master and explorer but part 1 comes with max level and part 2 would be with a rep grind to honored for the newer expansion and each part opening flying in the zones they were completed in.
Thinks other people care about how they play.
Calls others selfish. lol
Draenor pathfinder was painful.
