Flying Update in Shadowlands

Allow me to supply the appropriate response.

still not nearly enough to get me to order Shadowlands prior to the full release of Shadowlands pathfinder.

That’s the deal they decided for me when they announced they’re sticking with this stubbornly bad decision- I won’t play SL until after they’re done holding flying hostage.

At this rate it’s shaping up to be a great call for me- I’m sure they’ll be much closer to fixing the disastrously unbalanced launches of Torghast and Covenants by the time 9.2.5 rolls around…

@Kaivax This isn’t enough. I want to see MASSIVE grinds for flight in new zones eliminated forever. BFA, shadowlands and beyond… It is VERY frustrating and a HUGE inconvenience… I’m in a dungeon queue or dungeon group most of the time and to have to quest 9000000 quests, I literally have to not do anything else but quest for a week or more just to fly. Its not a good system at all. If you want to gate it, do it another way… Or put a gold cost to it… This is a huge negative as a returning player, at least for me. Im sure there are others that agree.

I agree it is not enough but it is a starting point for more to come. Freedom for flight is near!

why not now?

its not relevant content anymore. i have pathfinder in all 3 so i dont have a horse in the race but its stupid to make people who dont currently have it wait longer

could be a long wait then guy after all remember Blizz-con? Watcher gets hit by an overwhelming chorus of booing and what does he do? stands there smugly and laughs in their faces with the same amount of condescendence he always shows whenever people disagree with him

seriously what kind of ego makes a person actually stand up in front of the most loyal of fans this company has and basically thumbs their nose at them?

no respect for the players at all sure theres no doubt a lot of forum goers are less than cordial and often act with great cynicism toward Blizzard but we didn’t become this way overnight

it took months of this kind of treatment from Blizzard to cause this level of criticism and outright negativity towards them and for the company to constantly throw it back at us and claim were the problem isn’t helping their reputation

What about BfA zones?

Oh I know they won’t cave on this. I’m just not paying for 12 months+ of sub prior to the release of all the parts of pathfinder this time around…

After all, the pro-pathfinder people will tell you that it doesn’t take long to unlock so why should Bliz get paid for it while they’re keeping it behind time gates?

I do think it’s hilarious that the level squish is making the requirements of pathfinder seem ridiculous compared to the other zones (since you can level in those with flying without pathfinder) to the point they have to cave on it at all…

I’ve thought you should have been doing this once the expansion is over anyway… Letting people fly in outdated content doesn’t impact me in any way.

I have all the pathfinders and I believe this is a good move. Having a new player go through four pathfinders just to gain full flying does not sound fun.

That’s all good but what about from level 10-30 for people that earned pathfinder? Why can’t we fly anymore in Draenor or Broken isles?
Is this removing flying again from people that earned it?

But I like pathfinder.

You think you do, but you don’t.

I’m in that position as well. Loosening flying restrictions on old content is great and all but if we’re going to be stuck on the ground for an arbitrary amount of time I won’t be playing SL until flying is available.

I’d be fine if they said PF part 1 unlocked flying for the initial zones. I’d preorder in that case but until then…NOPE.

ooph, level squish kicking them in the teeth but good there. Nice point.

I guess that removes WoD and Legion from my potential leveling list since I don’t want to play either of those ever again without flying.

Great job, Bliz.

Agreed.

We will see if there are more changes involved due to shadowlands squish and streamlining but this is a good start.

The net only works sometimes, anybody who’s spent any amount of time in WM has gotten quite good at dodging it and can still escape even when they get hit, thanks to goblin gliders.

To me this is less of an issue with lack of flight and more a problematic gap in mobility between DHs/monk/rogue/druid and other classes. The gap exists in BGs, too, and so I think that gap should be addressed by either boosting the other classes’ mobility to the same level (probably the better option) or nerfing the mobility of DH/monk/rogue/druid. In older expansions, grounded PvP yielded a bit of advantage to rogues, but it wasn’t that huge of an advantage, and most other classes were on roughly equal ground… the game can and should return to that.

oh don’t worry itll still be there

ironic that now players will have the option to NOT do it and suddenly others are speaking up wanting Blizzard not to take away their choice on the matter

odd how they didn’t care how many players were inconvenienced by the original concept of pathfinder but now that the choice to do it in older content is being removed suddenly they are the ones speaking up opposing the change claiming its being “forced”

It’s almost like you already know that outside of the new player experience being forced into BFA, players aren’t going to choose to level in BFA, so you don’t bother removing it’s PF requirements.

Good call.

Great for alts of existing players, not so good for new players.

Expert flying or expert riding? Currently on the alpha level 30 flying comes with a purchase of expert riding for 250 gold. In live content expert flying costs thousands of gold. Which is it?

Meanwhile, new players will be stuck on the ground in BfA with other players flying around them. That’s going to be a horrible new player experience.
