yeah, the portal thing I dont even remotely get.
Not like a stinking portal is causing any problems or any extra work.
Drop a model, add a sprite (still calling it that?) tell the software where it goes.
I seriously doubt its any harder than that and likely much easier for someone whos been doing it for 15 years.
Pathfinder is a fine concept. Holding it until there’s basically a few relevant months left in the expacs life is just dumb IMO.
I guess we’ll have it to farm with for the last 6-12 months before the next expac is released? Umm, yay, I guess?
There was actual in game explanations on WHY we couldn’t fly in those zones. On top of the fact that those zones were a lot smaller than the actual main zones.
I can totally get behind no fly zones when they are small zones with actual explanations. Major landmasses, such as our current zones, make no sense to have zero flight.
8.1 would’ve been a “Nice Middle Ground”. Even with the 1 Month delay compared to 7.1.
What we have, where we are at…beyond ridiculous now.
He’s the game director and hates flying. So long as he’s at the helm, I’m afraid that flying will be delayed or suppressed as much as possible.
Flying wasn’t an issue in tbc or wrath - arguably the most successful expansions. What is it with the current devs and their anti-flying stance?!
Flying was the first to go, and now, portals. I suspect flight masters and mounts are the next to go…
Please don’t jinx me, blizz!
ESO doesnt have flight that I can tell.
But it has portals everywhere.
In the CURRENT content I can just walk up to the portal (wayshrine) which starts the little fire inside its center pedestal, which indicates I can now use it to portal around.
So I have absolutely no movement restrictions in current content. Its exactly the same as any other part of the game.
I wonder why WoW NEEDS all the restriction?
Is the content so bad that forcing me to stay on the ground so I have to fight every stinking animal along the way the BEST they could do to keep me ‘entertained’ ?
In ESO everyone can ‘crouch’ (stealth). Which means I can play sorcerer and stealth right past most of the crap running around in the world.
Ive stealthed thru most of the city areas where everyone has been a hostile.
Why is it that blizzard feels their content is so threatened (cheapened) if I can avoid it…either by steath, or by flight…when ESO doesnt seem to need to put up the artificial barriers?
If theyd make the game BETTER, they wouldnt need to hide it behind this joke called pathfinder…and they certainly wouldnt need to make the world ‘bigger’ by removing my portals.
It’s not about being wrong or right, it’s all about slowing content consumption.
I’m guessing more like 1 to 2 million active subscribers left.
If that…
Plenty did. Blizzard just ignored it and went back to the spreadsheets that told them that everything was hunky-dory until it suddenly wasn’t.
It’s not the players’ fault that flight was going away for good in new content or that Pathfinder exists. It’s entirely the developers’ fault.
I don’t dispute that at all but maybe if even more of us did that maybe it could have caused a change. Maybe I’m completely wrong and they were going forward with this regardless how much damage they did to the game.
Totally agree, I don’t think what they are doing is working and I think a lot of players resent pathfinder and by extension the removal of portals. I think that’s a part of the problem with bandaids, people know they are there.
I remember when we first got flying could you even get to certain high level areas without it like Skettis or certain places in Nagrand? I didn’t level in bladespire without it but the area seems like it’s designed with flight in mind.
I dunno man, I feel like there are a lot of opportunities to make it a fun gameplay feature that means something in the context of the world outside of just flying above treetops when you’ve completed all the content in a specific area.
I’m honestly f-ing tired of them fixing what is not broken. AT LEAST, explain to your players what is that you are doing.
iT wOUld be WEird FOr nEW plaYERS to SeT HeaRTH in oLD DaLARan
Wake the f up! You are not getting any new players. You are pissing off the few you have.
They’ll figure that part out right about the time the last server is being unplugged.
So, you guys want to do the repetitive WQ’s and “content” even faster now to have even less time in WoW? I’m down. I’ve leveled 15 alts already because of the lack of stuff to do in the current expansion. I’m trying to stick around until they add things to do but it’s tough as hell.
Would you do WQ at all without a) rep grinds unrelated to flying or b) meaningless grind currency?
Would be cool if they could decide whether flying is a thing or not in WOW instead of holding onto it to reel in more money later on in an expansion.
I’d really like to see the flying unlock being possible through a CHOICE of play styles to avoid burnout
I’d like to do a lot of it in instanced pvp and dungeons/raids. Not a big quest fan.
This thing requires more time than any other unlock. I believe it requires more time than leveling 110-120. Just seems so out of whack and forced.
And we only get it when it’s mostly irrelevant because rep grinds are done and all quests are done.
Just not a very good design for ‘fun’ or a great gameplay experience
I don’t think it would have mattered. Blizzard has shown a tendency to let its ideas play out completely before it changes its mind, regardless of how obvious a dumpster fire a particular idea is.
I wouldn’t care about flying if the terrain wasn’t so stupid. Go do this world quest… oh it’s up on a mountain, let’s spend an hour getting up there for a garbage reward. Avoid monsters by staying on the road… nope! Dazed! Dazed! Dazed! Oh hey by the way doesn’t the world feel HUGE now? /blizzlogic
Zones were much better from vanilla through wrath to where getting around on foot wasn’t as much of a pain, and there wasn’t a dumb time gated unlock for flying in TBC or Wrath.
Stormpeaks and Icecrown feel huge and immersive. It doesn’t matter that most of the zones are empty 3D space because they were designed to be impressive in 3 dimensions so you are awe struck just flying around absorbing everything.
And those zones literally are huge especially compared with pathfinder expansion zones.
Making you run all the way around a mountain to gain 2 feet in elevation to mine an ore node slightly above your character’s eye level doesn’t make the world feel bigger or more immersive at all. And it doesn’t help matters that most of those mountains and crevices are simply obstacles to travel with nothing meaningful on them.
