Flying is 'at a nice middle ground'

Just had his latest interview with pcgamer and says that we are at a ‘nice middle ground’ between early flying unlocks and never getting flying.

I feel like we’re heavily slanted towards ‘never getting flying’ since it only unlocks when we have completed the zones and there is barely any reason to ever return except for an alt. Doesn’t feel very ‘middle’.

If you don’t play any alts (and Legion/Bfa are some of the least friendly alt xpacs of all time), there is almost zero benefit to flying. We generally get it when we are sent into a new zone where we STILL can’t fly.

The entire theme has been ‘we’re going to make sure you never have flying while it is relevant’.

A more fair solution, more ‘middle’, would be to let everyone get flying without timegating, and possibly with a smaller unlock requirement (why is rep essential to flying?)

You mean like Tanaan Jungle?
Oh wait…

Or Broken Shore.
Oh wait…

You are thinking of Argus, and applying that case to every expansion.

If that’s what you did last xpac you were doing it very wrong.

Yep. That’s what he means by “nice middle ground” - not when it would be relevant to have it.

Hm? Is that why I level an alt a week these days and was able to fund my WoW sub exclusively by obtaining gold through mission tables on alts in Legion?

With all the xp changes and the draught of 10 lands, leveling feels pretty easy these days.

Ion has no clue. Can’t stand that guy. Wish he was gone!

So, 50/50 chance we’ll be able to fly in the relevant zones when flying unlocks.

Typically no one leaves a compromise happy.

Blizzard says no more flying.
Players say always flying.

Compromise is you do a gated achievement to unlock it.

I don’t know, I remember getting a ton of value out of flying in Legion when it was finally added. And at that point I already had 3 level 110 characters and wasn’t working upon any others. Personally I wish they would have never added flight to begin with.

Orly?
Then why do you have flight, to max and a veritable airforce of relevant mounts/

It is interesting how the comments have changed over time regarding flying. There used to be far more pro-fliers than luddite anti-fliers. It seems many of them don’t play anymore, or at least don’t come to the forums.

But then, despite crz making things look crowded, friends list and guild roster have shrunk from thriving to life support since launch. Same thing happened in cata and wod, but not this much.

Luckily flying will come back, and I’ll venture more people will return with it.

Yeah I read the interview, couldn’t post links :frowning:
Honestly, the change was unnecessary, flying was never a problem until they made it one in all honesty.

Because I am not stupid? I am not going to not use something that offers a huge advantage just because I would rather it not exist. Why would I put myself at such a disadvantage compared to others?

Next time try and use a little common sense before you try and get snarky…

We get flying after we’re completely tired of the zones and half the players have left the game, also just in time to get a new zone that doesn’t allow flying. Ion, that’s not a middle ground, that’s what you guys were willing to give us. The players want to fly because it is fun and allows us to do what we want in Azeroth without spending most of our time traveling. I still have yet to hear an excuse that makes sense. Just give the players flying. Your game will make more money. That’s clearly what it’s about these days, with boosts, sales, new store mounts, new toys, virtual tickets, etc.

Temper, temper.
It is just always an amazement to me that not one single so-called ‘anti flyer’ has ever had the courage of their convictions.
Next time, try not play a game that forces you to do things you (claim) to hate.

They tried to fix a system that wasn’t broken, and are now just stubbornly refusing to go back to the old system. This sealed the deal for me: I’m never buying another WoW expansion again. The devs are completely out of touch and digging their heels in even deeper in a failed system.

Flying was almost perfect 10 years ago. Like in Wrath.

You leveled up without it. Experienced the zones on foot, then you got it for the last few levels. After you could then unlock it early on alts who would then be able to level up entirely with flying. (Of course this was when you purchased it)

but now Ion is just a liar. Leveling multiple alts in the same zones, with the same quests has nothing to do with immersion or experiencing it on ground.

The only reason flying is not there is to force players to take longer to level and stay subscribed longer.

Are you really Ion in real life?

I am one of those crazy people that actually agree with Pathfinder but I am starting to get a serious itch for flight. The opposing factions island is to bereft of viable FP like they had in Legion and it is wearing even a grind lunatic like me down.

Soft balls all the way… nothing about class design, nothing about RNG on top of RNG, and nothing about lack of communication with the community. As always, sprinkles of nothing that sound good.

He basically admitted that they had a short Beta for BfA, when we said that and proved it as the Beta was happening. 100% of the issues were brought up prior to launch, and the absurd majority agreed the release was too early. Legion had a solid 6 more months of health without feeling like a drag.
