Flying in DF sounds awful

This feels like pro-flying moving of the goalposts.

“We want flying at the start of the expansion.”
“Here you go!”
“We actually want no effort needed flying at the start of the expansion so I can AFK hover in new zones.”

I don’t know, one of my biggest gripes with flying was that it was a zero skill cap activity that provides players with almost complete immunity to the dangers of the world. They’ve been doing better and better at making flying actually feel dangerous in recent patch zones, but I think this could be a huge improvement on what we have now.

It’s a gimmick. A way to satiate their dev needs in slowing down the player base while giving you the illusion of flying.

It looks hella annoying out the gate and will be tolerable near the finish.

Guys like Taliesin love everything… but frankly I don’t care what these content creators say. They praise so much then when launch happens; I ask myself ‘‘what happened’’ lol whereby so much changes happen, iterations, that it looks nothing like it did in testing.

I like that they are experimenting but this seems like it’ll get old REAL fast.

I agree. Lets add this to regular riding and walking. If you are not constantly typing a character for each leg, you cant move. If you are not hitting the correct keys, your mount or character falls to the ground and takes even other keys to get back to your feet.

We need this kind of “immersion” to simply stand or move too

This is a valid concern, considering how often Blizz throws expansion systems out the door. The recent interview with Ion gave me a bit of hope though. He basically said that they would wait and see how Dragonriding is received by the playerbase during DF. If the majority seem to like it, then they would consider implementing it throughout the rest of the game and into future expansions. But if it ends up falling flat, then they would simply revert back to regular flying again.

Because Blizz invites a specific demographic into their alpha/betas, and then when it goes live it all doesn’t end up as planned and they go “well no one gave us good feedback on x!”

So far from what I can see, you can’t fly ‘up’ very well unless there’s a ‘draft’ or until you ‘upgrade’ your flying and of course… Using ‘energy’ etc, you also can’t use it to hover either and you have to ‘aim’ and use action buttons.

The fact that you can’t freely use your other flying and have to use the ‘new and improved flying’ is telling enough.

Even the basic version we got on alpha last week in no way “slows you down.” It is waaay faster than regular flying in almost every case. Really the one thing you can’t really complain about with this system is slowing players down.

I honestly cannot tell if a post like this is satire or not. Imagine thinking that someone is a narcissist because they don’t like a game mechanic.

Who cares though? You still have to land to do anything. If someone wants to hover while they grab a drink they’re not bothering anyone else or gaining any advantage.

And right there tells me gathers are not going to be too happy with that type of movement …has a feeling I won’t be when trying to mine if I can’t use my regular mounts on the ground…as I have said before I don’t mind being grounded till I reach max level and I can get my flying what I do mined is months and months of so called Path Finder holding me back from flying when I am max level…this so called dragon flying sounds more like only dragon gliding from spot to spot…and you have to get up higher to glide down…

As a druid who uses FF exclusively, I am not happy about being forced into dragon flying, but I’ll give it a whirl.

Oh you sweet summer child.
This whole thing is to test, come launch, they’ll introduce things to mess with your flying, the rate at which you soar or whatever, so you take several weeks, months, to progress your flying a’la Pathfinder style.

Developers always are trying to slow you down.

Then open the gates later in the xpac.

They’ve clearly wanted to differentiate flying to this, but it isn’t gliding at finish, when you finish pathfinder 4.0, I mean the dragonriding progression, you’ll be able from what I read, to fly fast even for lonng periods at a time.

For now it’s just a point a to point b before you progress the system.

Yeah that’s going to suck I am same on my druids I always use our own flight form to fly and ground one when grounded…

NO you mean Pathfinder 4.0…lets be honest here now…

Of course there are. Dragon riding is a mini game.

It will definitely suck for those that suffer from motion sickness.

Which is why I don’t use many of the dragon mounts or slime worm type ones in the air…its makes my stomach flop around…going up and down…or swinging from side to side…I hate noisy mounts with flapping wings …why before I go the headless horseman mount I used gryphon only mounts to fly they fly straight and level and no noise…

I really hope it is totally optional, yet I remember that garrisons were going to be optional as well, but the devs tied it so intrinsically to progression and story that it was mandatory gameplay.
