Flying... Here's the truth

Nobody walks. We ALL have ground mounts and whistles/flightpaths that let you get anywhere. And beside mountain areas, is barely slower than flying from point a to b.

I’d rather do whatever gets flying on my characters the fastest.

You’re not seeing the point I’m putting in front of you.

But… I have flying at 0 second after reaching the level for the zone, how is that slower than going to a flight master and buying it for 20k or however much it would have been?

Then why gate flying if teleporting and flight paths are pretty much as fast?

And allows instant content skip!

You mean the way it has been from 2007? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

You’re the one complaining, I’ve no intention of trying to understand why blizzard came up with this. But i can tell you one thing. If it was making them actually lose money, they would have changed it.

Maybe it was broken and they decided to fix it. You thinking it wasn’t is irrelevant.

What…? Shut up man

It wasn’t broken.

Someone like me, who would be happy with unlocking flight if it was done organically and enjoyably, rather than a ham-fisted checklist that makes sure all content is thoroughly exhausted by the time flight is obtained and thus, not really utilized the way any player would have hoped.

What’s the point of giving me a free meal, if you make me wait until it’s moldy? Your generosity is sort of negated in the end.

It’s a BAD compromise.

and no, it’s not an affront to me personally. It’s an affront to all of us. Because I can read between the lines. I’ve played enough games and dealt with enough people to know spite when I see it. To know that arrogant team leads are making a tone-deaf decision, that they know a lot of people will hate. I remember Star Wars Galaxies. Ion reminds me a lot of John Smedley.

You have no idea what the costs are for this game, and it doesn’t matter. This is Blizzard. Not some indie team. They have billions of dollars. There is nothing about flight that will impact them cost-wise. Games with less budgets make it work, make more work. They have enough money to start up a bunch of mobile apps. Flight was possible back during the very first expansion, and has been a staple since. It’s not going to break the bank.

No, I pay the same amount as you. My opinion is simply based more on experience dealing with game developer decisions, and less based on a misplaced affection for people who make a game I pay for.

They’ve not changed it out of pure ego.

When Ion announced PF for SL the audience, who paid HUNDREDS of dollars to be there which tells me they’re Blizzard super fans, booed him. The super fans booed the decision yet he still thinks it’s a good idea to keep it. If that’s not ego what is?

So you guys really do think that despite it being such a badly received change, they would still just do it just for the fun of it? What a fantasy world you’re living in.

I dunno about that. Remember Wildstar? That next gen MMORPG made by former WoW people? They died on the whole “this game is for old school WoW players who love end game 40 man raiding” hill, and even when their game was sinking they stuck to it and the game crashed. Blizzard looks out for that bottom line, but they are also extremely egotistical and stubborn. So there are some things they may just hold out on until it’s too late.

The argument that a lot of pro-remove flying made back in the day was that flying made WoW a worse game, killed immersion etc…

When the facts are that most of the game is played in dungeons/raids/instanced content that already do not have flying?

Then there was Bashiok’s post talking about ‘immersion’ when none of the zones are designed with that kind of immersion. It’s all spank-and-grind content to build up for the real instanced content that people aim for. Like how it has always been.

And then the PvP argument is countered by war mode (which could’ve had no flying in there for all the “muh pvp immersion!!!” people).

Fact is that pathfinder is a transparent time-gating method baked in with rep grinding and zone exploration. Both of which people were happily doing on their own without PF.

You can disagree all you want, but demanding your way instead of a compromise is just not going to work. You DO end up with what you want, you just have to wait so others can get their way too.
