I could agree with this as a compromise. SE did a good job with that.
You can earn the cost of flight just by doing quests and leveling. I always did, it was never any problem at all except in BC I couldn’t get 5k for epic flight so I had to wait till WOLTK
This is why I just play Classic. Ironically I can’t fly, but it’s the game I know, love and will play. I don’t play retail anymore. The last xpac I bought was WoD.
I fully agree!
Then you quit on a bad note lol
Necro’d thread lol
As my grandma used go say " if God wanted us to fly, he would of given us wings" lol
Sadly, the game has not materially improved since then and Pathfinger is worse than ever.
If I recall, pathfinder is no longer needed in Draenor or Legion, and all you have to do to fly while leveling these days, is get to level 30. In Shadowlands, it’s Renown 40, which doing the main quests will net you, without much complication.
Claiming that something you don’t even play is bad, is obviously hearsay, and you should probably form your own opinions. I also love that you say retail hasn’t improved, but that is the entire point of classic, that it has not changed in 14 years, and is the exact same game it was back in 2004. But that’s different, in some way, I guess.
I actually completely avoid Zandalar and conjoining areas for this reason. I don’t have the time to dedicate hours every day for months just to unlock a feature that’s already everywhere else. I still see the land I’m flying over, why the heck do people argue that you don’t get to experience it? Lame way to back blizzard imo.
Old thread but I’ll add to it again.
Flying is apart of the game since BC, so game design should stop treating it as an after thought. The new flying systems in Dragonflight look like that’s finally going to be the case from the developer side of it, and it is a way overdue upgrade to the flying mechanics of the game. Game should be allowed to evolve, since its been done through its long run that it’s also never just one thing, but… that’s also detractive to refinement. Leaving it rough around the edges as it has been for so long isn’t something I’d want to stamp my name on.
If you don’t like flying why are you even in retail? The pathfinder thing needs to go away, the gating of flying without completing a long set of tasks needs to go away. It’s not a “this adds meaningful depth” feature. It’s an annoyance at its height. Commit to the fact flying is in the game and let the players find the fun in that without making it a chore to get it.
I played all the betas, so I’m not totally ignorant of the game changes over the years. I’m aware that they finally gave up 2 xpacs of Pathfinger, but it’s still in the game elsewhere and I refuse to do it. Imho each expansion since Pandaria has been worse and worse. Finally, they so ran out of fresh ideas, they had to kill everyone. Feh. Again, jmo
I never saw this thread originally glad it popped up. Blizzard made it an issue and then psychopathic morons pretended like it was a problem that affected them on whether I can fly or not.
Spoiler alert: Me flying affects no one but myself and making it a time-gated slog or changing how it functions(Dragonriding) is laughably pathetic and I am so sick of Blizz listening to the absolutely psychopathic and wrong crowds when it comes to this game.
I think going forward, letting us unlock it shortly after new content releases like they did for ZM would be a good middle ground from what we usually get vs flying at level cap(probably never coming back ).
Run around for a month, then fly. I know after a month, with the exception of the gated campaign, I had done everything in the 4 starting zones of SL. They could even disable flight during parts of the campaign if they felt the need with phasing.
If God wanted me to work in a factory painting Recreational Vehicles I would have been born with a paint gun in my hand.
Pathfinder has been an abject failure and cost Blizzard a substantial amount in lost subscriptions, they are just too arrogant to remove it permanently.
I was there lol. It was made on the old forum not long before the new forum started. This thread, and the dungeon xp nerf thread were popular hot topics at the time, so they brought it over to the new forum.
Good its a great thread.
And that is the whole issue. Even with the fallout of SL they still refuse to return it to the game as it was for the first 10 to 15 years. Now we have Dragon Riding coming but it’s not flying but just another system.
Thread keeps getting a reboot lol. I wonder, if Goregroth/op is still playing wow. Haven’t seen him post in ages. Hard to believe it’s been close to 3 years since this thread was made.
It was always an issue. It killed most world ganking and pvp objectives since you could pull a helicopter out of your pocket.
It made it so they couldn’t have neat hidden things sprinkled about because you would helicopter over them and fly directly to the next waypoint
Theres a whole list of problems with being able to pull a no-clip cheat form your pocket. Most of them are from outdated systems and design, but the no-clip it still an issue no matter how you spin it.
The dragonriding looks like a promising fix even though it wont get rid of the noclip pockets, but its a start.
