Blizzard has stated once or twice that flying was supposed to be a novelty in TBC and was never supposed to continue forward. They tried to remove it in WoD but met a lot of resistance to the idea and such pathfinder was born.
I’ve said this COUNTLESS times over the years - but I’ll say it again for you. Blizzard is the only game company that over half the playerbase can say “We hate this” and their response will ALWAYS be “We’ll fix it so you like it”.
It’s the only game I’ve ever seen where developers dictate the content, not the players. If players overwhelmingly want something - it’s cause we’re wrong and they’re right.
You’re not wrong, and if pressed I’ll likely concede that WPvP is better when both sides are grounded. But I have had fun with flying too. I come in at them with the sun at my back, hanging out as far as I can waiting until I think they’re not watching. I fly in at an appropriate distance for my class to engage. I only do that when someone is causing issues like attacking lowbies to prove a point, I’ve never corpse camped and for regular PvP prefer they’re aware of my intent before I act.
I think we’re both correct from our individual perspectives and how we play, and any change that doesn’t take both sides into account will be a failure. It’s really neither here nor there, we get what Bliz gives us and our sole input is whether we choose to play or not.
I think we’ve been through this, it offers a strategic element to game play. More options are what make the game better, but that’s just one panda’s opinion.
Because it’s FUN. Once you do this content you just follow the same path with the same TEDIOUS mobs because they are NOT a threat they are nothing but TEDIUM. Don’t EVEN say pvp because the majority of people have WM off and don’t care one bit to pvp EVER. Flying avoids all that nonsense and allows me to progress multiple characters and I find progressing characters FUN.
I think the one argument against flight most of us can agree on is at what price. That is the great unknown factor, if they reinstitute flight in its previous form what would we lose. It’s obvious we’re dealing with limited resources, which I believe is the common factor underlying any number of unpopular decisions that they made these last few xpacs.
I’d prefer they deemphasize raiding but that’s specific to my style of play. I also wish they’d reemphasize casual PvP, I could live without flight if they hadn’t ruined that for me as well.
Does it? I think it does the complete opposite?
Would you call it strategy to land in the middle of a hundred mobs you would have had to ride through, kill one creature and fly away?
How about doing the same but not even having to get off your mount to pick the herb you wanted?
It’s a choice therefore a strategic element. How is fighting everything between you and your objective a strategy? It’s playing the game one way. I would call your example poor design and not cheesing, which goes to the point we’re trying to make. Bliz wants to be able to design the game poorly so they take our work around away.
Doesn’t sound like much of a choice to me.
But looks like you too are in the pool of “I don’t enjoy playing the game” if you are saying killing mobs to get to an objective is “designing the game poorly.”
Either way, I think its fairly obvious.
No one actually looks at the game’s position on flying, only their own. They think anything that makes them actually have to work for something in the game is “tedious” or “poorly designed” and this is the problem flying represents.
This is the problem that has always been represented by flying, nerfing things, and giving hand outs.
Once you get them, you think you deserve them and you never want to hear a reason why you shouldn’t get them any more.
Happens IRL too, so not surprising.
Either way, nothing we say here is changing anything about Flying, so that’s all I care to say on this matter today.
Enjoy flying!
