FIXING Pathfinder for World of Warcraft

Pathfinder is a tricky subject, so I’m hoping to get all ears in on this. For many of you, it’s a plague. And understandably so. You once had the abililty to buy flight for gold at max level. That no longer is the case. For others, it works out. You no longer have to save up for flight, but rather you just need to play the game to unlock it for all of your characters account wide.

Today, I’d like to work at resolving this issue.

First off, as someone who has achieved Pathdiner for WoD, Legion, and BfA, I believe Pathfinder Part 1 should be made available at Patch X.0 just like it is now. I get why flying is gated at least for a little while, and I agree with it. Give us some time to explore things on the ground and get to know our surroundings. Having said that…

Pathfinder Part 2 should be made available at Patch X.1. There’s no reason for it to be gated beyond this point. As a casual player, I was exalted with all factions before this patch hit. That’s well more than enough time for us to explore things on the ground. Waiting more than that is a mere gimmick and only serves to alienate the player base. We don’t need to be lingering around for nearly a year waiting to fly.

And finally, I believe that Patch X.2 should allow players to be able to purchase flight per character via gold. At this point, the Pathfinder enthusiasts have been able to fly for months account-wide. Not everyone has alts, and not everyone wants to champion Pathfinder to be able to take flight on his or her main character.

THIS I consider to be a true even ground for Pathfinder, and I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts! I plan to upload a video going into more detail about this, but in the mean time, what do you think of this idea, and if you have your own thoughts, what are they?

Thank you!

EDIT: I’m really both enjoying and appreciating all of the feedback you all are giving me! I’m reading through all of your comments and will take them all into consideration while creating my video

EDIT #2: Video is now online! Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qsnByNfCWI

By the time people get Pathfinder part one done, they’ve done all of the content on the ground, including World Quests. Some even have alts that have been through all of it.

Part one is all that’s needed. Then they need to stop fighting against it and make areas of zones built for flying to add more content, storylines for those areas, more dailies, etc.

Update the ideas from BC when flying was integrated into the game. Add more ways for people to get yanked out of the sky for the PvPers, as well. Make some areas dangerous to fly. Make opposite faction towns dismount you like they did in BC.

Build upon what we’ve had instead of moving backwards or gating us forever.

Pathfinder is fine as is.

If there was only one part, then either it couldn’t be completed until the new zones got released or they wouldn’t release it until after the x.2 patch. They give us a part one for the zones that get released at launch, and then a second part for the new zones. Flight would have trivialized the two new zones and ruined the whole shipwrecked/trying to survive vibe they wanted at the beginning.

We saw the qq that happened when we got flight for the broken shores and then Argus was released.

They’ve made it dangerous to fly in the past well, the qq still happened. We’ve even seen it this expansion in Mech.

I think there needs to be some indication of having done the content on foot for people to be able to access flying. After all, the reason we’re told we don’t get flying in the first place is because they want us to experience the world more immersively first. I was talking about this with a friend not too long ago, and we were discussing what could be done to make the experience less grindy.

Our idea was this: Pathfinder 1 is a requirement, of course. You must go through the full narrative of the expansion, including every major zone that your faction plays in, and you must explore the world that comes out at launch. When x.whatever drops (I agree that waiting over a year is unnecessary) they put in 2 paths to flying. One is the pathfinder part 2 achievement, where you get a new rep to revered, which generally takes less than 2 weeks of effort for a semi-serious player. The other is a gated questline that cannot be completed before a month of resets have passed, but once each part is unlocked it can be done with all the previously unlocked parts. That way, people that come back more than a month or two past when flying becomes available have a way to avoid the drudgery of grinding a rep from 0 to revered just to get on even footing with their friends.

In addition, I also fully believe that doing the rep-earning version of a current expansion’s pathfinder pt. 2 should unlock ALL of the previous continents’ flying.

For reference, I have long since earned flying in draenor, broken isles, and bfa. I have absolutely no problem with an initially time gated shortcut to flying. I earned flying in 8 days after 8.2 dropped, and I see no reason why a person coming back for the first time since before 8.1 should have to grind on the ground for 2-3 weeks while every rarespawn and event in the area they’re trying to get rep is killed long before they can get there unless they see it spawn.

If they want to hold back any pathfinder benefits, I think each part of pathfinder could add 10% movement speed, and of course the mount should only be rewarded for finishing part 2.

Flying is unfortunately useless nowadays.

Pathfinder is NOTHING more than increasing time played metrics.

Change it so flying is unlocked after completing Loremaster and exploring all zones for current content.

The way it is how, why even fly? Once you’ve unlocked it, all the things that would’ve been made convenient via flight have been done. (WQs being the big one here)

Stop treating wow like a mobile game >.<

No, it’s really not complicating at all. I’ll explain it as simple as I possibly can for you.

To gain flight in content you must complete that expansions Pathfinder. You will be required to participate in things you may not enjoy, but the reward is what matters.

Pathfinder is an amazing feature since it rewards players with something great all while allowing them to see all the content that the developers worked so hard on.

well, I don’t mind Pathfinder being gated behind exploration and story
what really bugs me is the rep grind

Without the rep everyone would just be sitting in the city in queue for something. Without the rep there is literally no reason to go into the world except to an instance for a raid or key.

I would still do WQ for gold and loot

Then earning rep shouldn’t bother you since you’re out there anyway.

Quite a few disagree. As do I.

Incorrect. They can create new end game zones tailored around flying. See Nazjatar. That place was built for flying. There was zero reason to keep us on the ground for it.

No it wouldn’t have. And they could have created more interesting and dangerous things to integrate the ability to fly.

Naz is built in layers for flying. Things will come after you in the air. Mechagon will get you shot down if you’re not careful. They were already built for flying.

Irrelevant. Every expansion where the final zone wasn’t connected to a continent has been flightless. They even told us it was going to be like Isle of Quel’danas and Timeless Isle. People ignored those facts.

So? It’s part of the game and integrating it into the world. Flying was dangerous from day one upon its initial release in this game. As it should be.

Missed you too! :blue_heart:

Do you play Classic? I’m on Westfall server. Same name but without the funny characters. Let’s play together! I have a guild now!

Rarely because of work. I’m on Bloodsail Alliance side.

lol then mabye I’ll reroll as a Warlock on yours  btw, you wanted to know who I am on YouTube? Google MythicTyrant. That’s me  What’s your guild? And can I join as a level 1???

Convocation. They don’t play all that often. We’re all old and have busy lives and play both versions, so it’s a very very quiet guild. Hehe. We’re not picky with levels. But you’d be alone a lot. None of us have any log term plans in Classic. It’s just something to fiddle with every once in a while.

I fear you’d be very lonely and disappointed. :kissing_heart:
