Fixing Cataclysm

Just a few ideas that may help a release of expansions from Cataclysm forward.

I dare say most people will agree that the Classic experience should end with WotLK. This is not to say that there isn’t room for expansions AFTER WotLK, but rather how not to make the same mistakes this time around. To this end, I think we should explore an alternate timeline for Cataclysm and beyond.

DO NOT change the characters AT ALL. This means the skills, skill trees, leveling, or abilities. I’ve always loved the continuity of playing my characters the same from beginning to end. The world my change because of Deathwing but we should not. It was this more than anything else in retail that caused me to quit.

Give us something new. Something not even available in retail. Maybe a playable Murloc mercenary race/class that starts the game totally hated by every faction in the game but that can build rep with BOTH sides. It’d be amazing to be able to do Horde and Alliance quests or play either side in PvP battles. The idea of having the beginning be super hard because there’d be no resources from auction halls, banks, or any other civilized city functions, appeals to me for some reason.

Archaeology. This was SO underutilized on retail. All the pets, patterns, schematics, recipes, and so on that were removed from the game SHOULD BE able to be accessed with archaeology.

Finally, Don’t give us gear to “level up” that will only be good for the current expansion. at the very least such gear should be given “heirloom” status, and should not be available for purchase. There is something to be said for EARNING something that others can’t simply buy.

I’m sure others have ideas of their own. I look forward to reading them as well as any agreements or disagreements with my suggestions. May the dream live on !

Just give us Cata Classic how it was and it’s fine.
Your ideas make no sense

Youre asking them to design a new class for a classic xpac? Something theyve only done a handful of times in Wows 20 year history?

Less than zero shot

We live in the era of Wow token, gdkps and 3rd party gold-sellers. Everything can be bought mijo…

idk about others, but I fully support #SomeChanges and I’d get behind #MoreChanges approach.

If anything, Classic has proved that we are all a bunch of sweaty pigs thrilled by orange/pink numbers .

In my book, #NoChanges has failed miserably. All content cleared within 2 hours, opposed to weeks in OG release, introduction if multiple custom features, such as same faction PvP, boosting changes, WG changes, cross realm arena teams etc, to fix player-created issues.

At this point, I say, go all out. Make whatever changes are necessary.

Yall are first crying how easy content is, then you cry about custom changes.
Yall are first crying about how bad some specs are, then you cry about custom buffs.
Yall are first crying how laggy servers are for layers, then you cry when they get removed.
Yall are first crying how long queues are, then you cry about locked servers.
Yall are first crying how lack of RDF sucks, and yet you want LFR to be removed.
Yall are first crying about bots, but then you support GDKPs.
Yall are first crying about boosting, then yall cry about boosting changes.

This is not 2005-2010 anymore. None of this is new content. None of us are high schoolers anymore.
Want “Classic” experience? Then #ALOTOFCHANGES must happen to make this content feel fresh again.

At this point I just wish Blizz would grow a pair and do what is necessary. If can’t solve botting issue by banning bots, start handing out PERMA bans to all big gold buyers. Perma ban them. Make an example out of them. Go ahead and check everyone’s gold income at like over 10-15k and ban wave even itss 60% of the playerbase.

The problem isnt that people dont believe some changes would greatly benefit the game…

The problem is almost no one has faith that modern Blizzard had the ability to make those changes effectively without screwing things up and making everything worse…

And after their recent decisions, from Rdf to the druid buffs/nerfs/unnerfs to the token… Id say thats pretty warranted

10k? Thats nothing lol… Youd be talking abouy tens of thousands of accounts…

Not really LFR was the knee jerk solution to much bigger problems in Cata, keep in mind it lost millions of subs before LFR was added.

That’s the point.
Sack everyone.

Eliminating all the players does solve the gold-buying problem. 5head strat.

It wouldn’t be ALL the players. Just those who have participated in illicit activities.
Perhaps banning 80% of the playerbase is not the best (made up number for dramatic effect), so perhaps you’re right. Set it to 50k gold.

This… is a big agree… all the removed-from-game things being able to be “dug up” fits so damn well.

Implying the same thing won’t happen regardless of any changes they make. Look at retail. Content cleared in hours not weeks.

Because those are two separate groups you can’t make both happy. They are opposed.

This is because they choose to not buff everything that needs it. Thus those specs that were left in the dirt complain. So it is a do nothing or do everything not do a little bit.

No, they cry because there are no queues, and for some strange reason Blizzard has decided it is okay for new players to go to that realm, but not if they are a transfer regardless of if an individual player is playing on that realm or not.

Because those two aren’t even remotely the same thing. RDF is having an automated system match you with other people looking to play that content. LFR is matching you with other people to do significantly easier content that gets easier the more you fail to do until you just can’t fail anymore.

If LFR were to through people into the same content then there wouldn’t be a fuss about it, and no one would want it removed… well no one that supported RDF would want it removed.

Those aren’t even comparable they were two entirely separate things. RMT would exist with and without GDKP. If GDKP never happened we would still be where we are right now.

Once again two entirely separate groups that oppose one another. You can’t make both happy.

Yes, this. As for 10-15k… you get that per character doing quests.

This is a lost cause, but I will offer some ways cataclysm could be done to “not” make it a complete trainwreck.

  1. New realms only, no clones or transfers, must go through the new world.
  2. No stupidly fast leveling rate. Use the classic 1-60 speed. No boosts or buffs either. Heirlooms could be left in but no one would have any at launch.
  3. Unnerf the difficulty of questing and dungeons. Cataclysm made everything a complete joke until you get to heroics. This is unnecessary for a whole new world full of players.
  4. Get rid of outland/northrend. Put the new content at 60, with the new cap being 65. This is a new game. It should not try to be an expansion as well. This would also make the talent page reductions less stupid. 41p could have been ok with 60-65 levels. It is not ok with 85 levels.
  5. Remove flying mounts. The game would take place entirely on Earth with no outland/northrend. This means there’s no need for flying anymore other than a few things after 60 which could be edited for ground access. Blizzard even admitted that putting in flying was one of their biggest mistakes then missed a golden opportunity with cataclysm to take them back out.

The main fault of cataclysm is trying to be a new game AND expansion at same time. They needed to pick a side and stick with it. I just told you how to do that. If I were the developer instead of a regularly ignored/censored user, this is the cataclysm you could have had back then, or hosted now.

Maybe you should just not post.

Cata was just bad, period. If Blizzard is smart they will just stop at Wrath.

you ppl couldn’t design a paper bag

enough with this gibberish. if you feel that it needs massive changes to be playable, then stay in wotlk.

just don’t play…

This is a funny thread. The best part was saying blizzard should ban 60% of the players. Just hilarious. With all the bad things happening in the game it’s good to see people who are still light hearted and humorous. Thanks everyone, keep the jokes coming.

Umm gold sellers has always been around… People need to stop acting like it’s new… GDKP isn’t new either.

Well don’t release LFR and keep dungeons in their release state. That without the dragging soul content he drought makes a perfect expansion.
