Sure they can, but it is much easier to play pug vs pug than it is premade vs premade. Right now people premade because you can mindlessly get honor facing other pugs more effectively than just pugging. If they knew they would face only premades, they would start back pugging.
Pugs would be facing the weaker and less invested player base. These players are just waiting in line for a reward. Premades would actually be facing players who want to pvp, knowing that each side has players who want to win, more a pride vs honor farm.
No there isn’t, Twinks destroy basic levelers, they have made low bracket BGs unplayable to non-twinks. Creating a twink takes much more effort than forming a premade and doesn’t cost a mountain of gold.
If you don’t premade at the level 60 bracket, then get ready for a challenge, often insurmountable.
There might be some people pugging who just want easy rewards but most people pugging are more than willing to play to win against other pug teams.
I think a lot of premade players see how pugs act when matched against a premade and assume that’s the same way they play when matched against pugs as well. Which isn’t the case, put most pug players in an even match and they’ll play just as hard as any premade player.
Premades are like your “pro level.” These guys know strategies and team strengths weakness, and much work. Their synergy is on point. It takes a lot of time and effort to get this good with many players. It’s a lot more difficult to be a good team vs a good player. One mistake in premade vs premade can be ground breaking and means you lose.
In a pug I have seen or done so myself, dominate single handedly to win.
Barely barely possible, and completely server dependent
The amount of time you would have to spend solo vs grinding pugs in a premade for easy honor is significantly more
And when I say server dependent, it matters 1.) how big your server is and 2.) how sweaty your rankers are. I used to inspect everyone rank 12-13 in every BG I was in. On my server,
to be standing 20 or higher you needed 600k honor. Other servers I saw had rank 13 players who were standing 6 last week with only 320k honor. Must be nice to be on such a small server with no sweaties
But yes, to the OP, BG’s are broken in classic and if you don’t want to contribute to the problem and premade then you may as well quit (like I have, just posting here until sub runs out, not logging in anymore) until TBC
I’m in the same boat. I like posting for some reason. But I rarely play. TBC won’t be exactly what I was looking for, as I loved vanilla, classic isn’t quite like it most ways. But TBC was still fun along with WOTLK. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out like classic.
I had more than 400+ days /played in classic 80% of which was spent in battlegrounds (did rank 14 back then), and I remember back in vanilla there weren’t nearly as many premades. The majority of players in BG’s were solo in vanilla, and premades tended to get matched vs other premades due to how the matchmaker functioned
I look at premades in classic wow the way PED’s in amateur sports (and even some pro sports) have progressed. At first just a few people were doing them, but as more and more people started using them it pressured the rest to use them as well. The thought became “well this is the only way to compete, even though it’s completely unfair to the people not using them”. The premades just bullied all the solo queuers either into premades or out of the game
In the case of you and I (and my friends) it’s out of the game
This is what I am doing. I’ll raid with my guild on raid nights and farm herbs, but other than that, I am done with PVP in Classic. The community that was around 15 years ago isn’t the same one we have now. Everything is just about min/maxxing to be the best possible rather than just playing the game to have fun like 15 years ago. You can bring back Vanilla, but you can’t bring back the community.
You are doing what many others have already done, there is no “filler” pvp in classic like there was in vanilla, if you queue up you will 90% of the time face a 10 man stack from a megaserver, its organized pvp vs a pug and the pug will give up immediately without even testing the premade. Would be really cool and a change of pace if I could take a break from purely raiding, queue into a wsg with 9 other people vs 10 other people who did the same and have some sort of fun game, as it stands very few are having fun. Its a gear manufacturing plant with the fun sucked out of it, that’s why you see so many former grand marshals standing around in stormwind as fury spec who have decayed to rank 7 from 14 in the last 3 months
This is a really dumb comparison. LFR is a mode that allows steamrolling through raids with little challenge. According to that logic premades against PUGs is the LFR of PVP because they can win Arathi Basin in about 5 minutes easily and get tons of honorable kills in the process. At least with PUGs against PUGs you actually get a challenge.
There’s good and bad to being matched with randoms. The bad is obvious, you could get bad players, bots, or afk’ers (although there IS a report afk feature in BG’s)
But just as it’s a negative, variety can also be seen as a positive. Generally most teams queueing are doing it for one purpose only: honor per hour. This means teams are usually composed of the same 10-20 rankers. Over and over. For months. There’s little to no variety
I personally have some of my favorite moments in classic following a rank 12-13 random pug teammate from a different server who seems to know how to play their class well in pvp and pulling off a spontaneous 2v4 at mine or lm something. Just as I’ve been disappointed by random teammates, I’ve just as frequently been pleasantly surprised as well
I don’t know that’s true. This is only anecdotal but I’ve been ranking by only doing AB as alliance in pugs (sometimes with with the same 2-3 friends from my guild) and I’d say 75% of the games are against pugs.
How is organizing a group cheating? Sure it sucks to lose to that but why don’t you try making your team work together to beat them, then at least you’ll have a fun match and you may win in the process. If you just give up and go to the forums to b1tch nothing will change for you. Why not try starting up your own organized groups for pvp as a start?
