Ok I was thinking of levelling my fishing until the new patch, and also need to fish some stuff on Siren isle still and I have two things so far…
These make it a lot easier to notice, but if I turn sound off I still miss stuff and I do like to fish with sound off when other people are talking or watching tv or reading near me. Is there any macro, weakaura or addon that puts a big popup text on your screen that ays “the fish bit,” or something cheesy?
Why in the world would you spend a second of your time fishing in retail? You get nothing but a few achievements points, it’s a waste of time.
There’s definitely a reason I haven’t done it since… I dunno maybe mists… but it seems easier to get the one item from fishing than from farming that rare on siren isle

Kaheti Slum Sharks are typically 500g or more, and many fish are required for feasts.
i do wish they would do a little more with fishing, i am engineer in game and want ez throw fishing lol, or make an electrical shock pole lol, but add a slot to put more gear in the proffesion tab

You know why they’re 500g? Because in the time it takes to fish one, you could have made twice that doing something else.
If you’re the kind of player who enjoys fishing then go for it, more power to you. But it’s not an economically viable activity, the opportunity cost of not having done something else with your time is too high for that.
Got any examples of something more economic to do with my time then?
I do open water fishing in Azj Kahet because I can fish up to twenty Kaheti Slum Sharks, and average fourteen, in an hour. If I don’t miss any catches, I average around 12k an hour fishing.
For contrast, I can sit in Dornogal, at my crafting station, and MAYBE luck into four or five orders, but the average during my play period is three. Assuming the average tip of 3k per order, this is only 9k total BEFORE taxes.
Skinning wouldn’t even get close to either of these on a per hour basis.
A lot of fish sell for a lot of gold, well on dalaran. I’ve sold 5 fishes for like 3k gold.

you can change your settings around to make the fishing bobber sound very loud, I forget how off the top of my head but when I did it google had the answer for me
Against this benchmark? You can do world quests for 20K an hour. Gatherers (mining/herb/skinning) I ask quote numbers between 30 and 50K per hour consistently enough that I don’t think they’re highballing me but I cannot confirm that myself as I have no patience for gathering, you said your skinning is lacking though so idk maybe you have too much competition or you’re not clearing mobs fast enough.
I don’t know of anything that can give you a text alert but maybe wear a headset that’s plugged into your computer so people around you don’t hear the splash?
I think one of the reasons there is no text alert is because then it can be easily automated with an Addon, and my god does Blizz love to bust people who automate fishing
Easier to go on a warpath against fishing bots than to rework fishing to be more interesting.
At least the interact button made it a genuine second screen activity, that was much needed. Just crank up sfx volume and turn ambience off and you don’t even have to look at it.

by the time you got the text alert, the fish would be gone.
