Nowhere in the history of WoW has anything in-game ever explained how fishing works. Seriously. It’s intended to be a mystery.
I just never bothered learning it this time.
when you fish you should also be getting books to increase your fishing level in beta that the way it was… with a regualr fishing pole . no extra stuff… maybe that version did not go live ???
I completely disagree with your statement.
You claim that you can catch fish in open water but then claiming you can’t in open water doesn’t jive. You either can or you can’t. it can’t be both.
And again, you know as well as I do that bots will and are fishing pools exclusively now. Fish prices will lower as more and more bots do this. This will make fishing pools extremely unproductive for you.
And if afk’ing isn’t a viable strategy now, why can’t you afk fishing with the cast/interact combination if you have to fish from pools. Seems like that whole addition to the game has essentially changed the whole reason that was added.
Again, this it not a welcome change and a lot of other people feel the same.
I’m fine with fishing being a lot worse if it helps mitigate bots. But then again it takes 10 years for bots to get banned so who knows if this will do anything at all.
Oh that does remind me – I got a Weather Beaten Journal – in open water!
I’m maxed out and with profession gear and buffs from fish and food I’m still at about 30% trash when fishing in open water in the isle of dorn.
I don’t have a weaver line yet and I can improve my fishing gear.
It gets worse when you go underground. Definitely want to be hitting the fishing nodes for now.
fishing only available on the pools you find here but there are bunch of pools.
I tried sat but almost 0 pools to find because everyone is fishing. there is no competition but you got 1 hour 3 target fish required. if your fishing skill under 225 you can’t catch some fishes…
Where are you even getting this from?
I have an 80% fish catch rate in open water, the literal pool that the fishing trainer is fishing in (i guess they just catch junk too rite) in the starting area.
I detailed out my rates increasing as I skilled up.
The problem with standing still, is you get huge buffs to perception and fishing skill based on the fish you catch and the fish you throw back. problem with that is since you’re not fishing in a pool, you get way too many buff fish and not enough real fish. What did I say above? 1-300 was like 30 or 40 fish total. That sucks.
The point of the buff system is you find a pool, fish up 5 minutes of the buff, move to the next pool, use the buff, now this pool is REAL FISH ONLY, and you have the maxed perception and fishing skill. literally go from pool to pool getting buffs vs getting fish, etc.
Fishing skill cap is in the ballpark of like 425? Perception too. You’re 100. But you expect 100% rate or something? K.
They could go back to the old system of simply not letting you fish in areas without the skill. At least that wouldn’t confuse people so much.
People talking about low rates when they are undergeared (or even using OLD gear) is silly
That’s literally how professions have always worked, get better with higher skill level. The fact that fishing is 300 cap is the dead give away.
Historically, there is nothing that affects what you catch from a pool. Skill doesn’t matter. Buffs don’t matter.
I can’t understand what you’re saying here. Are you saying that buffs change what you catch from a pool?
Didn’t you know that fish only swim in specific pools and nowhere else in the water?
Might even be an anti-botting thing.
Or simply fishing pools is more engaging than standing in one spot for 12 hours.
yes, since dragonflight fishing rarity of items has been impacted by perception on gear.
in TWW there are generic pools eg “glimmerpool” that can drop a variety of fish…
glimmerpools can give you:
bismuth bitterling (throw back 10fishing)
crystalline sturgeon (throw back 45percept)
goldengill trout (catching it gives 45percept)
specular rainbowfish (cooking)
spiked sea raven (cooking)
presumably the raven is a rare, specular+goldengill uncommon, having more perception means more raven over the other 2. not sure how whites fit in because you want the buffs rolling
I’m guessing it was done to shut down people from using simple pixel/audio scripts to bot it.
Af: You seem to be a very angry person. You use insulting language to anyone who doesn’t fit your approval.
Try to be more open minded and less aggressive, huh?
Yes, you did level. No, I didn’t. As I stated, I’ve fished in every single zone in this expac. And, i’m still not getting fish.
I completely support your opinion, but try to be less toxic? Thanks
I think it’s a good change.
Fishing pools is more interactive.
Standing in one place is too easy for bots.
no, you’re contradicting facts and claiming it’s “my opinion” while repeating things that have been explained multiple times in the thread, and somehow translating being matter-of-fact with hostility. you also claimed I’m “upset” for some reason?
I’m not concerned with people posting misinformation or trying to state their incompletely detailed anecdote as fact being corrected. Claiming that’s toxic? Or I should be “less” of something you’re declaring I am?
/rolleyeswhileshrugging
There are literally fishing guides posted on all the guide sites, videos on how to do it, including clarifying points.
But these facts are countered by “someone else wrong complained about the same thing I am so we’re both justified.”
I agree it can be confusing, but the different zones are clearly labelled in the fishing guide and a toast happens when you skill up high enough to go fishing in a new zone. Blizzard recommended! They should make it clearer that you will basically ‘be bad’ at fishing.
People posting LARP opinions about how they feel it “should work to make intuitive sense” is fine, but when those opinions are backed by misinformation (and bolstered by “tons” of other people who are also misinformed) to double down and attack people who are clarifying as toxic or upset is just deflecting the discourse away.
OP wanted a “definitive source” (whatever that means) when their entire stance was based on dubious anecdotes.
Again, guarantee that the people with fishing issues do not have perception and are not fishing in the areas appropriate for their skill.
I don’t really care about if someone feels it should work some certain way (totally coincidentally the wrong way they were doing it, shocker), that’s great!
But I’m only seeing ridiculous anecdotes and dismissing the actual facts of how it works and why it was changed to be more in line with how other gathering works here.
Great information. thanks for toning it down.
i got my fishing skill to 300, you still get just trash if you dont fish on a pool.
