My fishing : Fishing is not lvling it seems to lvl in other expansion’s just not in the first zone

is this in classic or retail? generally every zone has its own fishing level and youl need to move to higher zones to level it. Also fishing from pools tends to work faster. But the higher level you get the less ‘skill ups’ youl get quickly, it can take a number of casts for one skill rise
It has been so long since I sought training for fishing. Is it still a one time training fee like Shadowlands or do you need to return to the trainer several times to “train” for a higher skill level or area level in the previous expansions?
If this is for Classic then this guide is very helpful…
For retail you need to get SL fishing from the trainer in Oribos and you can can fish anywhere there is water to get your skill up from 1-200.

outland and above seems to be working just not in the classic zones it seems, IE. Stormwind , Elwynn forest , and on and on till outland

hmmm make sure youve leveled at the fishing trainer to unlock those fishing brackets and from memory fishing in stormwind for example wont level you has to be out in the zones.

Are you going back and training at the levels? Like 1-75, then 76-150, etc.?

What is your skill level at? Are you still at 1?

Capitals, at least, are only leveling Shadowlands fishing skill, not vanilla. Maybe intentional, maybe a bug.

Came here to say this. Same thing is happening at Darkmoon Faire. I definitely think it’s a bug! There are some existing reports already.
All I know is it was fine a couple weeks ago now its not
This bug seemed to correlate with the 9.1 patch.
No, you can completely skip an expansion and still max out the new expansions professions.
Yeah this sounds like some sort of bug if you’re not getting skill ups in the right areas. I’d put in a ticket or post in the bug forums.

So is the issue that the basic fishing skill is not leveling at all OR is it just not completing its leveling for basic fishing?
From what I’ve seen, if you fish in Stormwind/Org/DMF and don’t have Shadowlands fishing trained, you get no skill points. If you do have SL fishing trained, you get SL skill points, while it used to give vanilla fishing skill points. I’m not sure if this is true for any other locations or just those that have been noted so far. I think you can still level vanilla fishing outside of the cities.

You can level it outside of the capitals.
I wanted to do some testing earlier, so I made both an Orc & Human alt and leveled them both to level 5. I then sent them to their capital cities to train only the basic fishing skill.
Horde
I did find that fishing inside Orgrimmar itself did not result in a skill-up, however heading out the side gate to Southfury River did allow her to skill-up fishing.

I also found that fishing inside Stormwind did not result in skill-ups for fishing. However, heading to Crystal Lake in Elwynn Forest did result in skill-ups for fishing.

I am having the same problem with fishing skill… I just started to fish and trained in SW at level 10 but the only time I skill up is on doing the fishing daily’s .
So going outside of SW and fishing is not enabling you to raise your fishing levels?
Gonna bump this topic as im also unable to skill up fishing by fishing, im stuck at fishing lvl 10, and have the 25 fish achievement, this is clearly a bug of some kind.
